m21 loves a swanky cocktail party, and he loves it even more when the party is a fundraiser for a good cause, so we wanted to bring to your attention that the decorative arts and design council of the los angeles county museum of art is honoring los angeles design legend, rose tarlow, with its third annual design leadership award, and as part of the celebration,  rose tarlow and the DADC are having a cocktail party to raise funds for the purchase of a historic jock peters' designed table (above), originally part of the interiors of the art deco landmark bullocks wilshire department store here in los angeles. once purchased, the table will be part of lacma's upcoming exhibition california design 1930-1965: “living in a modern way”.

in an era of budget cutbacks, art museums like lacma are struggling to keep the doors open and provide quality exhibitions to the public, so decorative arts purchases are often overlooked in the scheme of things.  who cares about some musty old table, anyhoo? well, we do, the DADC does, and so does rose tarlow, so purchasing a ticket goes to a great cause!

help, i need somebody!

(first of all, i promise not to make a practice of this, but a friend of ours who loves animals is desperate to find this sweet girl a home, so i'm making an exception and posting this plea.  i'd also ask you to please not send in more pictures of animals needing adoption!  i loves teh animals, and do my part for them, but i can't  turn this blog into animal clearing house- thank you for understanding, and for bearing with me on this one time occasion).

a few months ago, my friend witnessed this pup and her sister get thrown out of a truck on a busy street here in los angeles.  he is a huge animal lover and so of course, came to the pups aid.  unfortunately, he lives in a no animals building, so he had another friend take them in while he worked to find them homes. one has been adopted out, but the this girl remains, and her temporary foster is leaving town and unable to take this young lady with, hence a bit of desperation surrounding her fate...

her name is nina, and she is a pointer/pit mix. she is 7 months old, about 35 pounds, and is a sweet, happy and energetic young pup, socialized with people and other dogs, as well as spayed and current on shots.  reminder, she is a PUPPY, and needs the attention, stability and TRAINING of a forever home filled with love.  if you can help, please email JAUGUSTBAKER AT G MAIL DOT COM. 

if y'all can forward this post to anyone who might be able to help with either a foster or a forever home, it would be appreciated.  nina started her life being thrown from a truck, and doesn't deserve to go to the los angeles county animal shelter, which is the next stop if she doesn't find a home.

holiday spirit

if this lil number from glee's upcoming christmas episode (this tuesday!) doesn't put you in the mood for the holidays, then you are for sure getting a lump of coal in your stocking.

home for the holidays @ la cienega design quarter

we're a little late on this one, but today and tomorrow the la cienega design quarter is having a holiday walk with special events, sales and trunk shows, at merchants like lee stanton, hollyhock, szalon, and woven accents (featuring the glamorous jewelery of my neighbor, joann smyth).

and if you stop by szalon, be sure to say hey to this stunning chandelier for me- saw it on 1stdibs a couple of days ago, and we can't stop thinking about it!

same time next year...

you'll notice the bar right next to the tree- after attaching all those ornaments, a drink needs to be handy!

every year, we say next year we're going to skip the christmas tree, because attaching all 10 gazilllion ornaments is too much of a pain, but somehow, it just doesn't feel like christmas without my beloved 99¢ store/kmart xmas tree.  so this year we got smart and got a little help putting it up, and we're happy we did- it's pretty and makes us happy, plus (here we go tootin' our own horn again) we think it's pretty darn chic for being thrown together on the cheap- proof that glamor needn't always cost a fortune.
