thanks, mom.

after my mother passed away, i discovered a large manila folder with my name on it, containing artwork i made during my elementary school years, including every single mother's day and birthday card i ever made her. how amazing that things i had long forgotten were special enough to her to carry through many moves, and to hold on to until well after i was a grown adult and had flown the coop. she certainly nurtured my artistic side as a kid, and discovering the envelope brought back many happy memories of her driving me to the art supply or hobby store to indulge whatever crafty project was my obsession at the moment; i also remember her response whenever i repeated the oft heard childhood complaint of "mom, i'm bored", it was always, "why don't you draw me something, then?"

today, as i happily make my living indulging my creative side, i know it couldn't have happened without my mother's love and encouragement as a child. 

thanks, mom.

as always, i love you and i miss you. tomorrow, on mother's day, i promise i'll draw you something.

2011 Legends of La Cienega: Celebrate Art (and more may fun!)

what do all these great artists have in common? (besides being in many a museum's permanent collection, of course) well, on may 12-14th, they will all be inspiring window vignettes created by bunch of great los angeles interior designers during the 2011 Legends of La Cienega: Celebrate Art event. we can't wait to see what our fellow decorators come up with! we already know we going to love our friend molly luetkemeyer's sol lewitt inspired window, just 'cause molly and moi both share a love of color, and a sincere appreciation of the unusual and the quirky. hopefully molly will also be debuting some of the new fabrics from her upcoming collection in her window as well!

besides the great window displays there will be cocktails aplenty (one of the reasons we love these events ;-), and lots of interesting panel discussions, moderated by just about every magazine editor out there (sponsers include: ELLE Décor, House Beautiful, Traditional Home,Veranda, Angeleno Interiors, California Homes, California Home & Design, and Luxe Interiors and Design, with lots of local interior designers giving their opinions on all kinds of design related stuffs.  we are particularly looking forward to the "undo" panel at rose tarlow melrose house, featuring our friend, and fellow los angeles designer/blogger, brooke gianetti, of velvet and linen (amongst others) discussing "methods for deprogramming a new generation of clients, brainwashed by media’s obsession with budget home renovations and misguided internet persuasions" - talk about an interesting topic!

you can rsvp for events of interest here (last year, it was SRO at virtually every event, so be sure to RSVP early). we hope to see y'all there... and please say hi if we haven't yet met in person!

also, we wanted to mention an unrelated event taking place the same week that all you los angeles area design peeps should also have on your radar- richard morales of bluePRintbrands is putting together a 2nd designLA tweet-up ("taking the social conversation from online into real life") on monday, may 9th from 7-9 pm at o-bar in west hollywood. this event is a casual, unsponsored mixer for people in the design industry to get together to enjoy some cheap happy hour cocktails, trade war stories, and maybe do a 'lil networking.  the first event in february was tons of fun, and we met all kinds of really great peeps, so we are really looking forward to this one as well! add your name to the list here to join the fun!
