Mysterious Castle has been in the iOS App Store for 15 years! Thanks so much to the many fans who have supported one of the oldest maintained roguelikes on iOS. This special version introduces a lot of updates: ADDITIONS: * Completely new 'valley' location to explore. * Added variation to starting location, you can now start in 3 overworld quadrants or in the new valley location. * Improved enemy AI for more dynamic battle choices. * Added new 3rd level spell, 'poison', which can only be found in one place on the map, or if you are lucky you can start out with it learned by an eldar or when using +3 starting bonus. * Added new modifier 'coward', which is the opposite of 'rage', granting a bonus to armor class and a penalty to attack and damage after falling below a certain hitpoint threshold. * Added new enemy type 'bugbear', low level ambushers with 'coward'. * Added new enemy 'mummy', a very tough high level undead monster. * Dungeon vaults in the overworld are now slightly larger and can have multiple levels, with better treasure and a chance for unique bosses at the bottom level. * Added new 'fast block' ability, which allows you to block as a move action. * Added new magical items. * Added new unique magical weapons and armor, that can sometimes be found at the bottom of multifloor dungeon vaults. * Added 'great fire' and 'great ice' damage to unique weapons. INTERFACE: * New options screen layout adds more room for future options. * Increased duration of hover messages. * Stairs and ladders are now always highlighted when not in combat. * Out of combat, maimed characters occasionally complain, so you don't forget about them. * Zoom scale is now saved between app runs. The game will load at the same zoom level that you left it at. * New highly experimental 'sun mode' for playing in direct sunlight. This looks super weird right now, and it will evolve, but for now it might help with visibility in direct sunlight. REBALANCE: * Rebalanced treasure distribution. Lower level dungeons should have a bit more level appropriate items to find, and higher level dungeons will have fewer low level junk laying around. * Reduced chance for enemies to carry magical weapons. * Rebalanced fire and ice damage from weapons. * Increased power range of scrolls. * Increased dwarf darkvision from +4 to +6, added +2 defend bonus, and a -2 flurry attack penalty. * Modified line-of-sight algorithm to allow seeing up over steeper slopes. * Made web spell duration 'move'. * Web's now disappear when you get stuck while moving through them. * Wands you do not wield now take longer to use. * Eldar can use wands but not wield them (so it's always slower). * Increased minimum area for 'acid' spell and item effects. * Removed empty chests from the overworld, these were an unpleasant tease. BUGFIXES: * Fixed a bug where the game would CRASH if a character died from poison while moving out of combat. * Fixed a bug where sometimes you couldn't go down a set of stairs a second time. * Fixed 'double tap' bug where a menu item under the tap would sometimes be immediately selected when summoning a context menu, usually in inventory. * Fixed a bug where Alucard wouldn't give you any reward for bringing him a nice ring. * Fixed a nasty bug where enemy spellcasters could endlessly cast spells of nearby enemy casters from a _different_ party! * Reduced the occurance and mitigated a bug where a world generation could get stuck on "Filling lake and river" for many minutes. * Fixed a bug where forest night sounds would play in some parts of the underground frozen lake. * Fixed a bug where selecting "reload before combat" from a death popup didn't always work. * Fixed a bug where sometimes an enemy would die from poison but get stuck on the game screen.

CHANGES: * Added 'defend', a partial action that increases armor and resist damage, along with items that grant a bonus to it. * New framerate independent renderer, now you can select 30FPS to save on battery life, 60FPS for smoother rendering, or 'device' framerate, for buttery smooth rendering when your device display is set to 90 or 120hz. * Added more ambient sound effects including for fire and warp stones. * Added many more sound effects for items and spells. * Modulate step sounds randomly so they are less repetitive. * Added subtle pulsing to emissive light sources for some visual variation. * Improved, smoother animations for hover statuses. * Optimized messages of hover statuses, for less onscreen noise. REBALANCE: * Minor bump to light radius and power of torches. * Added more light items to find in dungeons. BUGFIXES: * Fixed a couple of sprites that should have had emissive lights but didn't. * Fixed a bug where elf wizard sprites would have a glow burn. * Fixed a bug that slowed down saving and loading by archiving unnecessary light emission data. * Fixed a bug where the deathscreen wouldn't show up if a character died from poison damage. * Fixed a bug where climbing up or down stairs would not set the proper ambient sound effects. * Fixed a bug where some magic weapons would not show any info. * Fixed a bug where climbing or descending stairs and then reloading before moving, could lose or duplicate items. * Fixed a bug where sound would not reset when switching characters. * Fixed a bug where health bars could be hidden if multiple heals are done quickly in succession.

Mysterious Castle 1.80.1 ADDITIONS: * Completely updated the rendering system from SDL2 to SDL3 including many graphical improvements! * All new lighting system casts colored lights and emissive pixels. Makes the world darker with more contrast, but also increases sneak success chances. * Increased number of light items (torches, lanterns, etc.) that can be found. * Increased effectiveness of darkvision skill. ADDITIONS: * Added 'unconscious' state! Now when your party member is brought below 0 hitpoints, they fall unconscious instead of dying. While unconscious they start to 'bleed' losing 1d3 hitpoints every round until they get to -20, at which point they permanently die. You can 'stabilize' fallen allies to prevent the bleeding death. This opens up combat in a fun way, you can now steal victory from the jaws of defeat! * Added a new death screen that presents you with a clear choice to reload or permanently lose your character. * Drain spell now drains ALL temporary hitpoints from all creatures in it's area of effect and redistributes them to allies. * Added an underground lake populated with a unique enemy, and a map to mark it's location on your world map. * You can now recruit Alucard to your party when you have fewer than 4 members, but how...? * Added some unique angels. * Added 'fast bolt' effect, which lets you cast bolt spells as a move action. * Added 'fast snipe' and 'fast rapid shots' effects, which allow you to shoot those attacks as partial actions. * Added 'fast drink' effect, which allows you to drink potions as a free action. * Shields now give bonuses to one or more of 'damage resist', 'energy resist', 'block', or 'riposte'. * Of course added a bunch of new magic items. USABILITY: * Support for many more Android screen resolutions, including tablets! * Map markers now scale when you pinch zoom the map, so you can see them much more clearly. * Added map markers for entrances to underground caves. * Corpses carrying magical armor or weapons will now be outlined in green. REBALANCE: * Limited hell dungeon to two floors. * Changed recipe for `shield` spell to blue and green. * Very slightly increased resistance of angels and demons. * Dark angels no longer summon undead. * You can no longer 'charge' when you are 'stuck'. * Made 'unstick yourself' a move action, instead of partial. * Acid now destroys webs. * Slightly increased the power of 'bolt' spell. * Slightly increased the power of 'acid' spell. * Slightly decreased the amount of mushrooms you find in dungeons. * When fire destroys a web characters are automatically 'unstuck'. * Blessing increase max hp by 5 intead of 4. * Reduced number of `shield` and `web` spells NPC can cast. BUGFIXES: * Removed 'reincarnate' function, it was buggy. Might add it again after fixing it up. * Fixed a bug where the first round of combat some actions would not animate, i.e. a spell effect or enemy would just appear suddenly. * Fixed a bug where giving items to a party member from a bag could duplicate the item. * Fixed a bug where some stairs would not appear on the map/minimap. * Fixed a bug where changing the sprite of some characters (lynx, demon, wolf) could cause the game to crash. * Fixed a bug where the X would draw in the wrong place when moving items to a full equipped bag. * Fixed a bug where unequipping with a full inventory could lose an item. * Fixed a bug where you could walk through a door after closing it. * Fixed a bug where magical swords would always appear as short-swords.

* WARNING: Old savegames might not work with this version, finish any epic runs before upgrading! * Reworked the saving and loading system, it is much faster to load games from the home screen. * Reworked 'web' spell to be slightly less annoying when cast by NPC's and more useful to cast as a player. * Corpses that drop special items are now highlighted at the end of combat. * Panning while selecting a target will clear the target, allowing you to pan around to find the target you want. * Added support for a small selection of custom character sprites, more unique sprites will be added in future versions. * Changed a few magic item names by adding a modifier, ie. you can now tell the difference between a 'studded belt +1' and a 'studded belt +2'. * Very minor rebalance of 'flurry' action. ***WARNING*** Saved games from previous versions are incompatible with 1.8. You might like to finish any ongoing adventures before downloading this update. Mysterious Castle 1.8 is a huge improvement over 1.6 and brings many changes and enhancements.
