I’ve been playing Top Drives for a few years now, and it’s easily one of my favourite mobile games. The mix of car collecting, strategy, and real-world stats is super addictive. Pulling a good car from a pack feels so gooood.Only thing missing? Proper multiplayer. I’d love to race my mates or have live battles something more social would make it even better. Still, if you’re into cars and chill strategy games, this one’s perfect!

I really would like to enjoy this game, the concept, the designs, the gameplay, I like it all, if I didn’t I wouldn’t be writing this review. However there’s just not enough content, I have finished the main campaign and there isn’t any point playing more of the game. In order to win races at this level you need A tier cars or above but the only card packs give B or below, and there’s only 2 normal given S rank cars. Honestly the challenges have no purpose to try to win them, you win and you get a B rank car at best. I came back to this game after a year or two hoping to find more content and that’s when I saw the championships. This of course got me excited as I enjoy this game. So then I grinded the final campaign, and events to try to get enough tokens for the championship however after getting into the championship I quickly realised how boring the update is, you get to play maximum one a day in the championship, but you’re forced to use D rank cars. Which is utterly pointless, why are you forced to use S rank cars to unlock a need to use D rank cars? Seriously let down 😔

I spent about a week getting enthusiastic and playing regularly until the mechanics of the game hit home and then I just lost interest. Firstly, the whole garage slots and prize cars with timers until allocated slots system is cheap and only there for a cash grab. Secondly, I’m perfectly ok with paying inflated prices for the meagre upgrades in performance, but why in the world would I trade 3 cars in a total of 9 times just to upgrade one car? That is the most absurd concept I can think of in a game in my nearly 35 years gaming! There isn’t a rational reason other than to grab cash again. I mean seriously, it’s a mobile game with decent looking cards but that’s where the detail ends. Monotonous same engine drone for every car, basic physics and car models. These are fine for a mobile game, and I’d be cool with it IF there wasn’t the premium jab with almost every basic fundamental mechanic in the game. Give us more and the pain will be dulled so more likely to put up with the broomsticking you want us to take.

Really to win you have to either spend real money, or grind to your life’s end. Bought the season pass, but they make it so incredibly difficult to get tokens, that you’re almost cornered to pay money for packs to get more. For $40 AUD it’s just not worth it. Especially considering you pay that and you may not get the rewards of it because of how hard the game is to progress. And the events you can see the requirements and you only get 24 hours. Then the events for the keys you’re placed against impossible opponents making it impossible to get a key. Don’t spend money on this game. And if you find gambling addictive don’t download it. It’ll turn into a money pit if you’re not careful
