Parkin\u00adson and Frank Miller, who fea\u00adtured <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stpauls.co.uk\/\">St. Paul\u2019s Cathe\u00addral<\/a> on the title cards of their short doc\u00adu\u00admen\u00adtary series, \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/big-screen-little-screen.com\/2012\/07\/27\/review-wonderful-london-for-cinevue\/\">Won\u00adder\u00adful Lon\u00addon<\/a>.\u201d That icon\u00adic&nbsp;dome makes for a love\u00adly and sen\u00adti\u00admen\u00adtal view. These days, it can be tak\u00aden in&nbsp;from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.londonmillenniumbridge.com\/\">Mil\u00adlen\u00adni\u00adum Bridge<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tate.org.uk\/visit\/tate-modern\/eat-drink-and-shop\/level-6-restaurant\">6th floor cafe of the Tate Mod\u00adern<\/a> (housed in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.glias.org.uk\/gliasepapers\/bankside.html\"><span class=\"s2\">for\u00admer Bank\u00adside Pow\u00ader Sta\u00adtion<\/span><\/a>).<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Time has altered&nbsp;all of Parkin\u00adson\u2019s and Miller\u2019s loca\u00adtions over the last 90 years, as Miller\u2019s 2013 footage shows. The icon\u00adic archi\u00adtec\u00adture may remain, but Covent Gar\u00adden now caters to tourists, a rack of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tfl.gov.uk\/modes\/cycling\/barclays-cycle-hire\">Boris Bikes<\/a> flanks the Hay\u00admar\u00adket, and the West End reflects the sen\u00adsi\u00adbil\u00adi\u00adties of ladies who dare appear in pub\u00adlic in trousers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Using <a href=\"http:\/\/imslp.org\/wiki\/Symphony_No.4_(Mahler,_Gustav)\">Gus\u00adtav Mahler\u2019s Fourth Sym\u00adpho\u00adny<\/a> as a sort of son\u00adic mor\u00adtar, Smith bricks the present day onto the British Film Insti\u00adtute\u2019s recent restora\u00adtion of Parkin\u00adson and Miller\u2019s work. Actu\u00adal\u00adly, it\u2019s more of a key\u00adhole effect, through which view\u00aders can peep into the past.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Assum\u00ading the medi\u00adum (and species) sur\u00advives, we may one day seem as quaint and the sepia-toned fig\u00adures bustling through the ear\u00adli\u00ader film.
