The 2024 Indian general election in Maharashtra was held in five phases between 19 April and 20 May 2024 to elect 48 members of the 18th Lok Sabha.[1][2] The result of the election was announced on 4 June 2024.

Election schedule

On 16th March 2024, the Election Commission of India announced the schedule for the 2024 Indian general election, with Maharashtra scheduled to vote during the first five phases on 19, 26 April, 7, 13, and 20 May.

Post-election developments

In June 2026, six Members of Parliament (MPs) from Shiv Sena (UBT) defected to the Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde.[18]

Shiv Sena leaders stated that the six MPs had formed a separate group and were expected to merge with the Shinde-led Shiv Sena.

Since the group constituted more than two-thirds of the party's Lok Sabha members, they argued that the move would not attract disqualification under the anti-defection provisions.

As a result of the defections, the Shiv Sena (UBT) saw its Lok Sabha tally fall from 9 to 3, whereas the Shinde-led Shiv Sena increased its numbers from 7 to 13, consolidating its position within Maharashtra's ruling NDA alliance.
