Angela Giarratana is an American comedian and actor. She is best known for her work with musical theatre company StarKid Productions and the YouTube comedy collective Smosh, of which she has been a cast member since 2022. She is also a co-host of the improv comedy podcast Artists on Artists on Artists on Artists.

Early life and education

Giarratana was born October 1, 1993.[1] Her parents are visual effects artists in the movie industry, with their careers relocating them to Southern California from New York and Miami.[2]

Giarratana became interested in acting at a young age, but did not become involved with theater until middle school.[3] Giarratana attended UCLA, where she studied theatre[3][4] and was a member of Company, a tradition for the annual competition Spring Sing.[5] In 2016, she starred as Gretel alongside Caleb Foote and Bradley Whitford in Hansel & Gretel Bluegrass at the 24th Street Theatre in Los Angeles.[6]

Career

In late 2020, Giarratana performed as part of ABC's Los Angeles Talent Showcase.[7] In late 2022, she appeared in an Alexa commercial for Amazon Prime.[8] Giarratana is a co-host of the improv comedy podcast Artists on Artists on Artists on Artists with Kylie Brakeman, Jeremy Culhane, and Patrick McDonald[9] and a member of the comedy group the Upright Citizens Brigade.[10] Giarratana is a member of SAG-AFTRA.[11]

Smosh

Giarratana was introduced to Smosh through one of her friends, who was a head writer at the company. She began work at Smosh as a sketch writer.[3] Giarratana joined the cast of Smosh in August 2022. Beginning in 2023, Giarratana appeared on Smosh Games' Sword AF, a Dungeons & Dragons actual play show.[12][13]

In 2024, Giarratana became the host of Bit City, a Smosh main channel variety series blending sketch and live comedy, where she led segments with both scripted and improvised humor.[14] On the May 10, 2025 episode of the show, Giarratana received a tattoo on camera after losing a game; her chosen design was the name of her cat.[15] Later in 2025, Giarratana was a cast member on Smosh's actual play show We're All Gonna Die, which uses the Dread system.[16][17]

Other work

In 2024, Giarratana co-produced the short film guts, which she also acted in. The film, shot in a single day, explores disordered eating, and is partially drawn from Giarratana's own experiences.[18][19] The film was screened at Sundance Film Festival.[20][18][19] Giarratana also featured in the 2026 short film Balloon Animals (directed by Anna Baumgarten), which also was screened at Sundance.[21][22][23]

Giarratana has appeared on multiple Dropout TV programs, including Make Some Noise,[24] Game Changer,[25] and Very Important People.[26] She has also guested on Comedy Bang! Bang!, Hollywood Handbook, Doughboys, and Good Christian Fun.[1] Giarratana featured in the StarKid Productions musicals Black Friday (as Lex Foster),[27] Nerdy Prudes Must Die (as Grace Chasity),[28] and Cinderella's Castle (as The Stepmother).[29] On September 14, 2026 it was announced that Giarratana would be reprising her role as Grace Chastity in a 2027 revival of Nerdy Prudes Must Die along with the rest of the original cast on London's West End.[30]

Personal life

Giarratana is of Italian descent.[15] She has said that she has been impacted by mental health issues, including depression and mood swings, since childhood.[3][better source needed]
