1SpecialPlace is an Indian teletherapy platform founded by Pratiksha Gupta, a speech-language pathologist and audiologist, offering speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, special education, and mental health counselling to children, adults, and seniors.^[1]^[2] The company has been described as India's first fully integrated online therapy ecosystem.^[3]

History

Gupta spent approximately two decades as a practising speech-language pathologist and audiologist before founding 1SpecialPlace^[4] She has stated that the idea originated after witnessing families in remote locations struggle to access speech therapy services, including one case involving an Indian Air Force family stationed far from the nearest diagnostic centre.^[5] The company built its model around delivering therapy remotely so that geography would not limit access to care.^[6]^[7]

1SpecialPlace developed a self-diagnostic screening tool to help parents identify potential speech and language delays in children, and has partnered with schools, hospitals, and therapy aggregators to extend its reach.

Growth and Recognition

Over more than a decade of operation, 1SpecialPlace has reported serving over 40,000 families across India and more than 80 countries, including the Indian diaspora, and has delivered upwards of 80,000 therapy sessions. The company was selected as part of Cohort 2 of SEED Inclusivity, a disability-focused venture accelerator run by Seedstars and supported by the Visa Foundation.Gupta has separately received recognition including the SABLA NARI Award (2023) for her work in accessible healthcare.

Services

1SpecialPlace provides therapy for a range of conditions in children, including speech and language delay, autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, hearing loss, and learning disabilities, as well as adult and senior-focused services covering stroke-related aphasia, Parkinson's disease, dementia, and voice disorders.^[8]^[9] Services are delivered through online video consultations as well as in-person sessions.<sup>[3][4]</sup>
