Abna Dakwa Village is a newly constructed community in Ghana, developed as a philanthropic project by American YouTuber and philanthropist MrBeast (Jimmy Donaldson). The village was unveiled in September 2026 as part of an effort to provide families affected by child labour in Ghana's cocoa-growing industry with housing, education, healthcare, clean water and economic opportunities.[1]
The project cost nearly US$10 million and was constructed on previously undeveloped land. Planning reportedly took approximately one year, followed by around eight months of construction.[2]
History
[edit]The project was developed in response to the continuing problem of child labour associated with cocoa production in parts of West Africa. MrBeast presented the village as an alternative for families whose children might otherwise work on cocoa farms rather than attend school.[3]
Construction included residential buildings, educational facilities, water infrastructure, renewable-energy systems and community facilities. MrBeast documented the development and opening of the village in a video published on his YouTube channel in September 2026.[4]

[edit]The village contains a new school designed to serve more than 300 students. The school includes approximately 10 classrooms and was supplied with desks, books and other educational materials.[5]
The project also includes 10 houses for teachers, allowing teachers to live within the community.[6]
Students are scheduled to receive free meals on school days for five years, with support reported from The Rockefeller Foundation.[7]
Housing
[edit]Residential houses were constructed for families and teachers. One of the homes featured in the project was constructed for a teacher named Isaac. The house was provided without rent and included solar-power equipment.[8]
Water and electricity
[edit]The village has clean-water infrastructure, including wells and two water towers. Water is distributed to houses within the settlement.[9]
Solar power forms an important part of the village's electricity system. An off-grid solar installation was developed with support from the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet.[10]
Healthcare
[edit]A medical clinic is included in the village, providing basic healthcare facilities for residents.[11]
Community facilities
[edit]The development includes a community marketplace, community centre and library. Agricultural facilities include a fenced farming area, chicken facilities and fish tanks.[12]
The village also contains a football field and playground.[13]
Construction
[edit]Planning for the development reportedly lasted approximately one year, followed by around eight months of physical construction.[14]
Infrastructure work included improving drainage around the community. Existing drainage was expanded to reduce flooding and prevent heavy rainfall from disrupting access to the school and village.[15]
Funding and partnerships
[edit]The project was primarily associated with MrBeast's philanthropic activities and was reported to have cost nearly US$10 million.
The Rockefeller Foundation supported the school-meal programme, while the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet supported the solar-energy infrastructure. Other organisations reported as being involved include the Varkey Foundation, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives and the 1 Billion Followers Summit.[16]

[edit]The stated purpose of Abna Dakwa Village is to address several interconnected problems affecting families in cocoa-growing communities, particularly poverty, limited access to education and child labour.
The project combines housing, education, food, healthcare, water, electricity and agricultural facilities in a single community. Its organisers have presented the project as a way of reducing economic pressures that can encourage children to work on cocoa farms instead of attending school.[17]
Opening
[edit]Abna Dakwa Village was officially opened in September 2026. The opening was documented in MrBeast's video about the project, which presented the completed buildings and infrastructure and introduced viewers to people involved in the community.[18]
