Kulob International Airport, or sometimes spelled as Kuylab International Airport, (IATA: TJU, ICAO: UTDK) is an international airport serving Kulob, a city in the Khatlon province in Tajikistan.
History
[edit]Construction of the airport began in 1977. Before Tajikistan gained independence, it operated as a regional airport designed for small aircraft up to the Yakovlev Yak-40. Following a major reconstruction, the runway was extended from 2,000 to 3,000 meters in length and widened from 35 to 45 meters. On 30 December 1995, the airport landed its first Tupolev Tu-154 aircraft, piloted under the command of Mirzo Mastongulov. [2]
In 1998, the airport was granted international status, and a hall for official delegations was opened in the same year (later renovated in 2015). Regular international flights, primarily to destinations in the Russian Federation, began operating in 2002. [2]
The airport's infrastructure was further modernized in subsequent years: a new departure hall was built in 2006, major overhaul of the runway was completed in 2008, and a second floor was added to the departure terminal in 2014, increasing its capacity by 200 passengers. Ongoing maintenance and updates include improvements to the apron, aircraft parking stands, and airfield support equipment. [2]
Facilities
[edit]The airport resides at an elevation of 2,293 feet (699 m) above mean sea level. It has one runway designated 01/19 with an asphalt surface measuring 3,000 by 42 metres (9,843 ft × 138 ft).[citation needed]

[edit]As of September 2026[update], the airport currently offers no domestic flights, as all of its flights are international flights to Russia.
