Criteria for inclusion of events
[edit]This article is intended as a list of significant events affecting the aviation industry in 2025. Remember that Wikipedia is not a newspaper and that newsworthy events are not necessarily of long-term significance. A good guide for determining the significance of an event is the ten-year test: would a person reading this article ten years from now consider that the event was significant from an aviation point of view? The answer to that question is usually "no" for general aviation accidents, of which there are literally hundreds every year. The same applies to run-of-the-mill incidents such as runway excursions, in-flight upsets, engine failures and the like, unless some other factor gives enduring significance to the event. Note that the existence of fatalities is not, in itself, a factor in the notability of an event. Similarly, routine news about airlines, such as changes to fleets and routes, is unlikely to be of long-term importance. Rosbif73 (talk) 08:40, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
Cessna 402 crash in Colombia
[edit]What about creating an article for the crash so it could be added there? I don't know if it's notable enough, but Aviation Safety Network marks it as a passenger flight, and it resulted in 10 fatalities so it's probably notable. SignorPignolini (talk) 22:02, 10 January 2025 (UTC)
- I support making one for now as it is currently the deadliest. Bloxzge 025 (talk) 15:29, 11 January 2025 (UTC)
- Being the current deadliest crash of the year is not, in itself, a criterion for notability, and we shouldn't be creating an article on that basis. Either the crash passes the bar for article creation (i.e. WP:GNG and WP:EVENT) or it doesn't. However, I don't know where people have gotten the idea that an event absolutely needs to have an article before it can be included here. Sure, an event that passes the notability criteria is likely to be significant enough for inclusion, but that's not a given (e.g. it might be notable for other reasons, such as the presence of a notable person). But an event that doesn't merit a separate article could still be significant from an aviation point of vieW.
- In the case of this Colombian crash, I'm not at all convinced that it meets the general bar for notability or the specific bar for aviation-related significance, but the general principle remains. Rosbif73 (talk) 16:00, 11 January 2025 (UTC)
Global Airlines A380 launch
[edit]Can I add the launch of the first Global Airlines A380? Bloxzge 025 (talk) 05:05, 18 January 2025 (UTC)
- As far as I've seen, the only recent news re Global airlines is that their first A380 was flown from one maintenance facility to another which is barely newsworthy, definitely not encyclopedic. When they finally start service, maybe that would be worthy of mention here. Rosbif73 (talk) 09:48, 18 January 2025 (UTC)
- Oh, ok. Bloxzge 025 (talk) 18:31, 18 January 2025 (UTC)
Do we upgrade American Airlines Flight 5342 to an article
[edit]American Airlines Flight 5342 has recently collided with a Blackhawk helicopter and crashed into the Potomac River. Lots of news articles are covering the crash. It is being considered a mass casualty incident. When do we give this incident its own article? Evrstz (talk) 03:01, 30 January 2025 (UTC)
- It already has an article. See this. I think it should definitely be mentioned here. Hacked (Talk|Contribs) 03:44, 30 January 2025 (UTC)
AA292 diversion to Rome
[edit]On February 23, American Airlines Flight 292 was diverted to Rome over a bomb threat (which was subsequently deemed to be non-credible), with Italian Air Force Typhoons being scrambled to escort it during the approach. While I don't believe that this flight is notable enough to make an entire article, it was certainly a newsworthy event. Does it meet the criteria for inclusion here? I'm completely unsure in this case. Andrew11374265 (talk) 04:13, 27 February 2025 (UTC)
- I'd say not. Airliners being diverted and escorted by fighters happens more often than you might expect, and can probably be called run-of-the-mill. If the bomb threat had been real, that would of course have been a different matter. Rosbif73 (talk) 07:27, 27 February 2025 (UTC)
Stop removing May
[edit]Please, if there is a crash in May it would be easier to add AvgeekInSpain (talk) 05:42, 13 May 2025 (UTC)
- Seriously? A blank section serves absolutely zero purpose, and it isn't exactly difficult to type
===May===if and when anything noteworthy happens this month. Rosbif73 (talk) 06:32, 13 May 2025 (UTC)
What happened to the 22 May Cessna crash
[edit]a Arctical of the San Diego cessna crash has big red lettering about a ref tag can some one please fix it 24.101.45.32 (talk) 09:22, 23 May 2025 (UTC)
Ryanair sever turbulence
[edit]A Ryanair flight had severe turbulence can some one make a article of it please 24.101.45.32 (talk) 19:54, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
Operation Spider Web
[edit]Would this fit here? On one hand it destroyed multiple Russian aircraft, but on the other, it doesn't really affect commercial aviation. Relton66 (talk) 06:43, 6 June 2025 (UTC)
- Military aviation events are sometimes included on the year in aviation pages, but only if they are notable from an aviation point of view (e.g. maiden flights of new aircraft types). That is rarely the case for military operations involving or affecting aircraft, and I wouldn't support adding Operation Spider Web here. Rosbif73 (talk) 07:20, 6 June 2025 (UTC)
Please, stop vandalizing
[edit]Somebody, vandalized this page, and it probably was a pain to the person who has to delete it, while the person who vandalized, thought it was funny. Phenomenal Avgeek (talk) 16:58, 21 October 2025 (UTC)
- It wasn't a pain at all. I just click one button using a tool and the whole thing is reverted. Although, it's still frustrating to see vandalism in the act, especially in one of the articles that I've created (I'm not taking credit for article). Hacked (Talk|Contribs) 17:07, 21 October 2025 (UTC)
- Hi, Phenomenal Avgeek, I am so sorry for my actions, it’s just that I got a little angry when Rosbif73 started deleting the Azerbaijan flight 220 thing, so please forgive me and I am so sorry for what I did 45.149.202.72 (talk) 17:31, 21 October 2025 (UTC)
- Ok, I forgive you, but you didn’t have to add those 3 pages randomly. Phenomenal Avgeek (talk) 17:33, 21 October 2025 (UTC)
Include ATC staffing shortages or US gov shutdow?
[edit]This is a more of a list-style article, but should we include the ATC staffing shortage or the USA government shutdown? Either as a blurb or a link to a larger article? guninvalid (talk) 23:16, 5 November 2025 (UTC)
- I'd say definitely not the shutdown per se, as it is not directly related to aviation. I'm not all that convinced about including the US ATC staffing either: while it does of course impact aviation, it's not an isolated event that can be pinned down to a date. And from a WP:WORLDVIEW perspective, the US isn't the only country with ATC staffing and/or issues due to ageing software and hardware. Rosbif73 (talk) 07:54, 6 November 2025 (UTC)
Hohhot Shengle Opening
[edit]Does anyone know which airlines operate out of the new Hohhot Shengle International Airport? I want to add it to the article. ~2025-34692-91 (talk) 02:14, 28 November 2025 (UTC)
- I think it might be redundant information. Hacked (Talk|Contribs) 02:17, 28 November 2025 (UTC)
Relevancy
[edit]A user named Rosbif73 has said that Luxair introducing the E195-E2 is not relevant. Then by that logic, Sunphouqouc airways in Vietnam adding an A321 into their fleet to start operations isn't relevant either. I'd love peoples thoughts on this. ~2025-34692-91 (talk) 14:23, 28 November 2025 (UTC)
- My point is that long-standing airline X introducing long-standing aircraft Y into their fleet is a routine occurrence, and not noteworthy here. New airline Z making their first commercial flight might be noteworthy regardless of the aircraft used, and new aircraft W entering commercial service for the first time might be noteworthy regardless of the airline. Rosbif73 (talk) 14:31, 28 November 2025 (UTC)
- What I think you mean by this is that when American adds another 737 MAX to its fleet, then that isn't relevant because the airline already operates the type. This is a airline introducing a NEW aircraft type into their fleet, one that they haven't had before. And yes, I know that Luxair did operate some ERJ190s before, but this is the E195-E2. ~2025-34692-91 (talk) 14:37, 28 November 2025 (UTC)
- That's only part of the point. If we were to follow your logic, we'd have an entry on this page for every existing airline that added the E195 to their fleet, every existing airline that added the A320neo, every existing airline that added the 787... which would mean several such introductions every month with minimal encyclopedic value. Rosbif73 (talk) 14:50, 28 November 2025 (UTC)
- It isn't that often that an airline adds a new aircrat type to a fleet. For example, Emirates added the A350 to their fleet but that has a entry on 2024 in aviation. I really do not see your point here. ~2025-34692-91 (talk) 15:02, 28 November 2025 (UTC)
- I stand corrected. What I meant to say is Iberia introducing the A321XLR is the same thing as Luxair introducing the E195-E2. Why didn't you remove that then, as that falls under your "irrelevant edit" criteria? ~2025-34692-91 (talk) 15:10, 28 November 2025 (UTC)
- If you multiply the thousands of airlines worldwide by the dozens of airliner types, you will get an unencylopedic mess of fleet additions. I entirely agree that Emirates' introduction of the A350 is a typical example of that and should probably be removed. On the other hand, Iberia was the first airline to operate the A321XLR, which gives it additional encyclopedic value. Rosbif73 (talk) 15:12, 28 November 2025 (UTC)
- Ok, I think I see your point. Sorry about that, and thanks for helping me for my debate as I used this as a practice but I also did want to add it. Have a good day! ~2025-34692-91 (talk) 15:15, 28 November 2025 (UTC)

Brazil airport fire
[edit]Should we add the jetway fire at a Brazilian airport that damaged a Latam Airlines A320? I'm not sure if it's relevant or not ~2025-38174-90 (talk) 16:00, 7 December 2025 (UTC)
Phoenix sky harbor flight importance?
[edit]The China airlines flight to Phoenix, what importance does it serve for the entire year of aviation? Isn't this rather specific... Just MRT (talk) 15:37, 9 December 2025 (UTC)
- I agree. Using Rosbif73's parameters, I don't think this is that relevant to the wider aviation community, at least on wikipedia(See Wikipedia is not a news source). ~2025-38174-90 (talk) 01:58, 10 December 2025 (UTC)
Cessna Citation III Accident in Toluca, Mexico
[edit]I notice that no article or mention has been made in this or any articles related to the crash of XA-PRO (Such as the Cessna Citation III article or the Toluca International Airport Article). Has the accident been decided to not meet the criteria or has no one gotten to making an article yet. Please let me know. ~2025-41033-76 (talk) 21:08, 16 December 2025 (UTC)
- I think it's a combination of both. No article has been made yet, and this accident, however sad it may be, doesn't meet the criteria (e.g. Will this be remembered in ten years time?) Also, Wikipedia is not a newspaper. This may be in the news for some time, but I doubt that this will be remembered when more significant crashes will happen unless this is a critical error with the plane itself such as the Boeing 737 MAX issues. ~2025-38174-90 (talk) 01:52, 17 December 2025 (UTC)
- Oh ok. Thank you! ~2025-41033-76 (talk) 03:19, 17 December 2025 (UTC)
- Yes, general aviation accidents are rarely notable, in particular per WP:EVENTCRIT#4 which tells us that accidents, however tragic,
are usually not notable unless something further gives them additional enduring significance
. As things stand, the Toluca crash doesn't seem to have any factors that would give enduring significance, and wouldn't pass the WP:10YEARTEST. At most, it might be suitable for an entry in the accidents and incidents section of the aircraft or airport page. Rosbif73 (talk) 08:48, 17 December 2025 (UTC)- Which I hadn’t seen as of the time I sent the post but I will check again. ~2025-41033-76 (talk) 04:16, 18 December 2025 (UTC)
Cessna Citation II Accident in North Carolina
[edit]I do know the criteria for adding something, bu I'm not sure whether this should be added. On one hand, it is a generic civil aviation accident that normally wouldn't be particularly noteworthy. On the other hand, the crash did kill someone of note. Should we keep the current post already up, or should we delete it? ~2025-38174-90 (talk) 01:47, 19 December 2025 (UTC)
- The presence of a notable person on board can contribute to the notability of the event (and thus provide a reason to have an article about the crash – though I would suggest that it should probably be merged to Greg Biffle#Death rather than being kept as a standalone article), but not the noteworthiness from an aviation point of view. I've tagged it as being of limited importance, and will no doubt delete it from this page unless there are serious objections. Rosbif73 (talk) 07:55, 19 December 2025 (UTC)
