Updates to lead and History sections

The current lead and the first paragraph of the history section of this article are not well sourced, so I propose replacing them with updated and reliably sourced text.

Please replace the current lead section with the following:

Fontainebleau Development is a luxury real estate development company headquartered in Aventura, Florida. Founded in 2019 by Jeffrey Soffer, the company develops, owns, and operates large-scale properties across the hospitality, gaming, residential, commercial, aviation, and marina sectors. Its portfolio includes Fontainebleau Miami Beach, Fontainebleau Las Vegas, JW Marriott Miami Turnberry Resort & Spa, Hilton Nashville Downtown, Turnberry Ocean Club Residences, Fontainebleau Aviation, and Turnberry Yacht Club & Marina.

Please replace the first paragraph of the History section with the following:

Fontainebleau Development was established in March 2019, when Jeffrey Soffer split from Turnberry Associates, the South Florida real estate firm founded by his father, Donald Soffer in 1967. Jeffrey partnered with Brett Mufson, who led the company as president. Jeffrey and his sister, Jackie Soffer had co-led Turnberry for approximately 25 years when they agreed to divide the company's assets. Jeffrey Soffer took ownership of Fontainebleau Miami Beach, JW Marriott Turnberry Resort & Spa in Aventura, and Turnberry Ocean Club Residences, while Jackie Soffer remained at Turnberry with its core holdings, including Aventura Mall. The two siblings continued to share ownership of certain assets, including Hilton Nashville Downtown and Fontainebleau Aviation.

@LawrenceBraverman: I am unclear on some things here. The current lede states:

Fontainebleau Development is a resort-hotel company started in Florida by South Florida real estate developers Turnberry Associates and the Plant family in 2005, after their purchase of the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach. The two families each hold a 50% stake in the company. The company is based in Enterprise, Nevada.

Why do you propose to remove reference in the lede to Turnberry Associates, and is it no longer the case that the company is based in Enterprise, Nevada? BD2412 T 00:06, 23 August 2026 (UTC)

Hi BD2412. Thanks for your question - I understand that this is confusing.

The information that is currently in the lead of the page is not correct, and the sources include broken links and press releases which are not appropriate for Wikipedia. That's why I wanted to update it with properly sourced material.

Fontainebleau Development was not started by Turnberry Associates and the Plant family, rather it was started after Jeffery Soffer split off from Turnberry Associates. The headquarters of Fontainebleau Development was never located in Nevada, but in Aventura, Florida.

This can all be seen in the sources that I posted above for the rewrite of the lead and history. I hope that it is now clear and that you'll consider updating the page with the correct information. Thank you, LawrenceBraverman (talk) 22:55, 23 August 2026 (UTC)

@LawrenceBraverman: Okay, I am reasonably convinced, that the article as it stands conflates the present Fontainebleau Development with the earlier Fontainebleau Resorts, and that the existing statements regarding its 2005 founding/ownership and its Nevada headquarters are inaccurate. However, I am not convinced that Turnberry Associates is so unrelated that it should be entirely omitted from the company history. Clearly Fontainebleau Development emerged from the 2019 division of the Soffer family's interests in Turnberry Associates, which Jeffrey Soffer's involvement with Fontainebleau branding considerably predates. History section update

Hello, I'd like to propose an update to the History section, which currently has a gap between 2009 and 2024.

Please add the following:

The unfinished Fontainebleau Las Vegas resort filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in June 2009. The property was acquired and sold several times, until February 2021 when Fontainebleau Development reacquired the property in partnership with Koch Real Estate Investments. The resort opened on December 13, 2023.

The 37-floor Trésor Tower at Fontainebleau Miami Beach was the first project undertaken entirely by Fontainebleau Development's in-house design team. The full renovation was completed in early 2023.

In June 2024, Fontainebleau Development was granted approval to purchase five acres of land near its Las Vegas resort for $112.5 million.

In December 2024, the company secured $1.75 billion from Goldman Sachs and J.P. Morgan, arranged by Newmark Group, to refinance the Fontainebleau Miami Beach and the JW Marriott Miami Turnberry Resort & Spa.

In 2023, Fontainebleau Development built SeaGlass Jupiter Island, a 10-story, 21-unit condominium. In 2025, they partnered with Starwood Capital Group on a second oceanfront project named 1 Homes Jupiter Island, which includes 10 stories and 26 units.

Additionally, while the reviewing the article I noticed the lead states the company was "started by Turnberry Associates and the Plant family in 2005." But I haven't been able to find a source that supports the Plant family as a founder or co-founder. I'd ask that this be removed from the lead, since it isn't backed by a reliable source.
