The Tower of Hercules is an ancient Roman lighthouse in A Coruña, Galicia, Spain, overlooking the Atlantic coast. Built in the 1st century AD, it is the only fully preserved Roman lighthouse still used for maritime signalling. Its current height is 55 m (180 ft), following an 18th-century restoration which added a fourth storey, the original structure having been shorter and wider. The tower was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2009.Photograph credit: Fernando
