Tēnā koe, hello, my name is Lisa.

I created my Wikipedia account in November 2019. I got introduced at an edit-a-thon in Aotearoa / New Zealand at the Dowse Art Museum.

In general my areas of interest in Wikipedia is topics of Aotearoa especially art, theatre and performing arts, culture and society in Aotearoa, increasing the quality and presence of underrepresented groups, women, LGBTQI+ on Wikipedia, and honouring Indigenous peoples representation and history, especially Māori and Pasifika.

I am Pākehā and my heritage is English and Scottish. I am a 'Tangata Tiriti', a person in this country because of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. I was born in Aotearoa and grew up in Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington). My user name 'pakoire' is a Māori language word that means to imitate bird sounds. My pronouns are she / her.

I enjoy learning more about the world I live in through the research required to write in Wikipedia, I enjoy the iterative and collaborative nature of this editing and I enjoy expanding the weave of access to information this encyclopedia form holds.

I am a currently Vice President of Wikimedia Aotearoa New Zealand, and volunteer in this governance role to support Wikipedians in Aotearoa. I have been to some Wikimedia Foundation supported events, including attending Wikimania Singapore in 2023 and the regional conference ESEAP in Kota Kinabalu in 2024. When I started editing Wikipedia I valued the local meetup group found the community sharing their experiences helped me. I am part of running Wikipedia events including coaching at edit-a-thons.

Managing my conflict of interests

I have a conflict of interest with some performing arts subjects as I have worked in a freelance manner in performing arts over a number of years. I manage this conflict of interest by declaring it on this page or in relevant articles. I get support of other editors from time to time depending on the nature of the conflict. Creative New Zealand payed me to teach Wikipedia to new editors from December 2021 to April 2022.
Since December 2021 I have been working for Te Rākau Hua o Te Wao Tapu (Te Rākau), Jim Moriarty and Helen Pearse-Otene.
I was a trustee of Magdalena Aotearoa which was one of the first articles I edited with guidance from others, I would manage this conflict differently now I know more about Wikipedia.
I worked at Toi Whakaari the New Zealand Drama School for nine years from 2008 to 2017 and have also edited this article, and I should have declared this interest, my focus was on adding alumni and removing marketing language.

Expand Pōneke | Wellington histories in Wikipedia

Focusing on local histories, the workshop aims to improve coverage of mana whenua (local Māori people) and sites of significance from across Pōneke | Wellington. This three hour session will introduce you to both editing Wikipedia and the amazing history collections at Te Matapihi ki Te Ao Nui | Wellington Central Library.

The session is coordinated by Wellingtonian Lisa Maule, Vice President of Wikimedia Aotearoa New Zealand, and supported by staff from Te Matapihi ki te Ao Nui | Wellington Central Library and Wellington City Archives.

When: Saturday 31 October, 12:30pm – 3:30pm
Where: Wellington Central Library – Ngā Pou Ruahine

Please bring a laptop or tablet and charger. Please create a Wiikipedia username if you do not have one. Choose an username that does not identify you, and add your email (it is optional) - this means you can recover your password if you forget it.

The workshop is an ‘edit-a-thon’ where a group of people focuses on adding edits to Wikipedia and the sister projects Wikimedia Commons and Wikidata.

Pacific Arts Creative New Zealand Wikipedian in Residence

Building from the Performing Arts Aotearoa Wikiproject Creative New Zealand contracted a Wikipedian in Residence project to increase content about Pacific Arts. At the core this outreach project I trained and guided three Pacific Island heritage people to run their own projects increasing content about Pacific Arts on Wikipedia, Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons. Sophia Coghini and I presented a paper at the WOW2022 conference in Sydney about this project.

Aotearoa Pasifika performance

This was a showcase that wove multiple disciplines of Pacific arts created and performed by proud descendants of Te Moana Nui-A-Kiwa, a group of young artists from Aotearoa, New Zealand. They illustrated the distinct voices of Tonga, Samoa, and Niue, through traditional and contemporary visuals, movement and song. It was presented on 17 August (Thursday) from 1:45 PM to 2:15 PM (5:45 - 6:15 UTC) at the Plenary, Halls 401/402 Suntec Convention Centre.
