SECTION 1 In a casual read of the UMass Amherst page, I noticed that their campus is characterized as suburban. Curious, I went to College Navigator which I take as the standard for this information and learned they classify the campus as "small town". So, I figured I would change "Campus" accordingly. With the code implemented (with a few screw-ups fixed), I proceeded to give a brief account of what I changed in the Edit Summary, or rather I tried to do that. About halfway into trying everything froze and a page popped up with what appeared to a warning about copyright. I checked everywhere on the page for a connection. The only options were the buttons "Leave" and "Cancel", with no explanations of what they mean. I guessed "Cancel" meant my work would be "lost", and that "Leave" meant pretty much the same thing except I would be kicked out of Wikipedia.

The whole thing left me pissed. After unsuccessfully trying to get back to finishing my edit summary, I gave up. In total, I waste an hour and accomplished nothing. I don't know what's going on at Wikipedia but with all the bot patrols, the error messages before you get to the end of the line you are writing, and this bizarre copyright notification, I am mystified as to where you are headed. As for copyright. I remain perplexed as to what's copyrighted. Are the words "small town" protected? Or the misclassification, or the entire Wikipedia page. I put my foot in Wikipedia waters more than 15 years ago and over that time it has become more and more rootbound, more highly policed, and decidedly less user friendly. I think the decision has been made to limit its inputs to "expert" users and discourage everyone else. Well, in my case at least, you've succeeded. A final note: I have increasing used Google AI and I think that inevitably it will end Wikipedia usefulness. I mention this not because I will be happy to see Wikipedia go but as a cautionary note to the decision-makers. AI poses a multiprong threat to all data-based information systems. One way to at least slow down its encroachment is to make your system as "frictionless" as possible and, it seems to me Wikipedia is moving in the wrong direction when it comes to friction.
