Artists

or perhaps I should say "visual artists", now that words such as "musician" seem to be outmoded. CVs are promotional (within tight constraints). The article Rachel Lee Hovnanian is somewhat CV-ish. Hardly surprising, then, if it's promotional. But it doesn't strike me as promotional. (Imbalanced, yes.)

[A] few examples of articles I've written about living artists: Cannupa Hanska Luger, Eric-Paul Riege, Cornelia Hesse-Honegger, Einar and Jamex de la Torre An interesting bunch. None more so than Hesse-Honegger. I've tinkered with this one: I hope I haven't thereby damaged it; but if I have, feel free to revert. Eric Isenburger isn't a living artist, but this is the artist bio on which I've most recently done quite a bit of work: feel free to improve it. (I can think of two possible augmentations that wouldn't be CV-like and would I think be worthwhile. Aside from those, I don't think I could make non-trivial improvements, or anyway not unless I have the chance to buy an affordable cheap copy of ISBN 978-3-922803-31-7 -- I've already shelled out my own money for ISBN 978-3-7319-0626-1; WP-editing can be an expensive hobby.) -- Hoary (talk)^WWU 👍︎ 07:10, 4 August 2026 (UTC)

Thank you for tinkering, @Hoary, I appreciate it very much! I was pretty thrilled when I found out about Hesse-Honegger's wonderful work. I will have a look at the Eric Isenburger article. Agreed that WP editing can be an expensive hobby, but a worthwhile one. I grew up across the street from a library, and am a book lover. It's only patchily developed. In some areas it may be overdeveloped; in others, though the lists in the hefty Von Frankfurt nach New York continue into the 1990s, its essayists show little interest in what happened after the mid-40s or so (and I don't blame them). Draft:Giorgos Pol. Ioannidis – clarification on sources

Hello Netherzone,

Thank you for reviewing Draft:Giorgos Pol. Ioannidis. I would be grateful for some clarification so that I can address the sourcing issue correctly before resubmitting.

I would particularly like to clarify the nature of some of the principal sources, since they are Greek-language publications and their standing may not be immediately apparent from the citations alone.

One of the main sources is the Lexicon of Greek Artists: Painters – Sculptors – Engravers, 16th–20th Century (Melissa Publishing House, Athens, 1997), a four-volume reference work devoted to Greek artists. Ioannidis has a standalone entry in Volume 2 (p. 49), containing both biographical information and critical discussion of his artistic work. The entry is signed by its contributor and is independent of the artist.

The draft also draws on coverage in established Greek newspapers and periodicals with longstanding publication histories and editorial oversight, in addition to other published secondary sources discussing the artist and his work.

There are also official institutional collection records documenting works by Ioannidis in the collections of MOMus and the Municipal Art Gallery of Thessaloniki, which are cited in the draft. I understand that collection records do not by themselves constitute significant secondary coverage for WP:GNG, but I mention them because they provide independent institutional verification of this aspect of the artist's career.

Could you please clarify whether you consider the cited secondary sources insufficient in terms of reliability or independence, or whether your concern is specifically that they do not provide enough significant coverage to establish notability under WP:GNG?

If possible, it would be particularly helpful to know which sources, or which aspect of their coverage, you consider insufficient. I would prefer to address the underlying issue correctly rather than simply add more references.

You are invited to join the Wikimedia NYC community for our Annual Election & Members Meeting, in-person at Prime Produce in Hell's Kitchen, Manhattan and also via Zoom. The Members' Meeting is similar to other WikiWednesday meetups, except that its primary function is to elect new members to the Board of Directors. We will elect three board seats – half of the elected seats on the board – and the elected board can appoint up to five more board members. As part of the Members Meeting, we will also focus on the Wikimedia NYC Programs Plan for the coming year, the Financial Report, and how to participate in our chapter member committees for Tech and Engagement. Election info: To run for election or to vote, you must be a dues-paying member of Wikimedia New York City, having renewed in the past 12 months. Voting will be both online, via emailed ballots from the ElectionBuddy service, and in-person. The poll will be open for the 48 hours between 8pm EDT on September 28 and 8pm EDT on September 30.
