Problem Editor

I have noticed a string of highly problematic edits by user Carmaker1:. As with Volvo V70, Nissan Murano, Audi 100 and Honda Odyssey (North America), he inserts the names of car designers based on missing, misleading or spurious references. In the Volvo V70 article, he inserted the name of a dubious designer into an article in such a way as to leave a direct and referenced quote by the actual designer attributed to his newly introduced spurious designer. And from what I can tell, he's pretty much blazing a trail through lots and lots of articles. His responses are... well... not helpful, to say the least. I notice that you ran into some similar issues with him recently. Is this something you could help with?842U (talk)

Apologies for being drastic with the revert but it was necessary. Wikipedia lives and dies by every fact having a supporting reference. Any "fact" that does not have a supporting reference must automatically be treated as suspect. We don't know if the unsupported fact is the truth, a misunderstanding or an outright lie. The support reference gives us confidence that it is the truth. This is covered in WP:FACT and WP:RELIABLESOURCES.

Your additions had the ring of truth and I assumed that you probably had the supporting references at hand but your additions had absolutely no support references. As you are a new editor, I wanted you to know that references are a necessary part of adding facts to Wikipedia. Note also that I asked you to undo my revert when you had the references ready, so I was not being harshly critical but was rather gentling guiding you.

As I said in my edit summary, please undo my revert and add the reference to the article. Putting the reference on my talk page is not helpful becuase other editors in 5 years time will not know where to look to verify the information. If you are not sure how to add references, please look in the article's wiki text for the <ref>...</ref> tag. If you still have toruble then try your best and I will clean it up afterwards. Also feel free to ask if you want help.

Lastly, assume WP:GOODFAITH when somebody reverts your changes - especially when the reason is given in the revertig edit summayr. Many of us old hands are happy to help the new guys.  Stepho  talk  12:52, 5 October 2025 (UTC)

Ah, I see your misunderstanding now. It is not enough that the reference already exists somewhere on the page. It must be attached directly to the fact. Otherwise we cannot check your new "facts" without tediously going through every single existing reference on the page.

Please undo my revert and add {{sfn|Conradt|2020|page=244}} at the end of the first line of prose in the new section. This gives enough clues to other editors who wish to double check your facts.  Stepho  talk  13:24, 5 October 2025 (UTC)

There was some discussion a year or 2 ago where it was sort of agreed that countries that use/used PS get the same privilege that hp gets for the US. This mostly applies to older European cars and Japanese cars because their home countries extensively advertised power figures in PS.

However, I don't think we ever went back and re-worded WP:AUTOCONV to reflect the consensus.

Thanks, I'll do that tomorrow. That discussion you mention did include me (I have a copy). What I understood was we use the units used in the country where the headquarters are situated. Tesla being made in the USA, China and Germany, the US is where the headquarters are so US units prevail. In the UK the only unit in new vehicle owner manuals is kW, I'll have to check when that took place. The rest of the world uses SI for the primary unit for vehicles manufactured after 1980. Thx for the revert but to be fair I think McLaren would be better example than Lotus's V8 since all of their (Lotus) bespoke V8 cars has gone out of production for many years. Why can't City of Everett be marked as "developed_from" for the Boeing 747?

Koenigsegg Gemera in Automotive Superlatives

Concerning your reversion of my (somewhat) recent edit to List of automotive superlatives, should the TFG not technically be counted, considering that the engine never made it to being in a production car? I imagine it's also probably not the largest three cylinder ever, considering the absurd engines they were putting in race cars in the early 20th century. Buv16 (talk) 13:58, 10 March 2026 (UTC)

Yeah, re-reading the Koenigsegg Gemera article and some references, it's not clear if the 3-cyl actually reached any customers or not. References say that most 3-cyl orders were converted to V8 orders but don't say if the unchanged orders were made or cancelled. Best to ask at Talk:Koenigsegg Gemera if anybody knows if it reached production or not.  Stepho  talk  23:01, 10 March 2026 (UTC)

Also, notably, even if some three cylinder customer cars have been delivered, the qualifications to be on the list include having at least 25 of those particular instances to have been made, and there's almost certainly not 25 three cylinder Gemeras made. Hi Stepho-wrs, I hope you are keeping well. I'm glad you enjoyed the image of the purple i30. Its actually blue for correction. Are you kindly able to take a look at the Hyundai i30 article for me please. There are a lot of really bad quality images

I'm not sure, both are bad, but option 2 is cluttered in a dealership. The Hyundai i30 article for the N-Line i don't think a car dealership is the best representative, and I'm glad you are very versed on the carpix standards :).

If you are able to help out, please let me know. I want a second opinion for own reference. Agreed, WP has mediocre car images. Like you, I'm not much of a fan of car park pictures - the backgrounds are too distracting. The blue image is a bit better than the grey car park image becuase it stands out from its background. It's rear image is also not too bad.

Toyota Land Cruiser

Listen, the link provided is a dynamic government dashboard. It doesn't have a unique URL for every specific model search, but the data is 100% there under the 'Land Cruiser' filter. Reverting a valid government source just because you don't want to click a filter is not 'good faith'. If you have a better source that says otherwise, show it. These are official industry and government sources. Deleting them across multiple articles because you refuse to navigate a simple dashboard is a violation of WP:DE (Disruptive Editing). You are actively making Wikipedia less accurate. If you continue to delete these verified official statistics instead of helping to format the citations, I will be forced to report your behavior to the Administrator's Noticeboard for targeted harassment and disruptive conduct. Lexus RX

Hi Stepho-wrs, just to clarify my cut-off edit summary: adding "and electric" introduces a factual error for the Indonesian market. In automotive nomenclature, an "electric lineup" explicitly denotes Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs). Since the Indonesian Lexus RX currently only offers HEV and PHEV variants without any pure BEV options, keeping it as "electrified" or simply "hybrid" is the most accurate approach. Octane rating edit

Thanks for the change on Octane rating re: removing the acid conversion citation. I'm still learning the rules of the site and didn't have a better source for the claim. Ford Thunderbird

The Mustang was designed and marketed as an affordable sportscar, with heavy emphasis on affordable. The Thunderbird was marketed as a luxury coupe. The Cougar took the basic design of the Mustang and pushed it towards the luxury coupe market. So we're looking at accessories like air conditioning, power windows, remote control mirrors, high-end stereo, fancier trim (often wood and chrome).  Stepho  talk  22:55, 1 September 2026 (UTC)

"Configured" means which options does it have. Compare the 3 cars - Mustang, Cougar, Thunderbird. Compare which of them has luxury options such as air conditioning, power steering, electric windows, fancy stereo, soft suspension and a low revving engine. Then do another comparison for which of them has sporty options like stiff suspension and a high revving engine. You will find that the options fitted to a typical Cougar will be more similar to the Thunderbird and not much like a typical Mustang. In many ways, the Cougar is the Mustang platform trying its best to be a Thunderbird. To a mechanic, the Cougar is a Mustang in fancy dress. But to a driver, the Cougar is more like the Thunderbird. Also think which of the 3 would you use for boulevard cruising and which would you use for racing. The Thunderbird and Cougar are good for slow cruising. The cheap, lightweight and high strung Mustang is not good for cruising but good for racing.  Stepho  talk  23:30, 2 September 2026 (UTC)

Cybertruck Payload Capacity

Hey! I saw your recent edit summary on the Tesla Cybertruck article so I figured I'd leave a quick message explaining the edits I made to the payload capacity section. In the Cybertruck owner's manual I cited, separate payload capacities are listed for all-season and all-terrain tires, except for the base single motor model, which isn't listed. This Motor Trend article does list the single motor model's payload capacity though, as well as stating that it only applies to the 20-inch wheels, and that "Tesla doesn’t publish payload ratings on the standard wheels." However, after making that edit, I found another version of the Cybertruck owner's manual which does list the single motor model, and says the payload capacity is identical for all-season and all-terrain *tires* (no mention of wheels, and it seems like all-terrain tires can be had on both sizes of wheel), as well as listing a third payload capacity for the all-wheel drive model (premium vs non premium), so I may go back and edit the table further. Lexus

I noticed how the Renault logo I added to the List of Renault vehicles was changed to .svg version and decided to do the same to List of Lexus vehicles in order to bring these pages up to uniformal style. I also think that recent .svg version provides more relevant information on how the current company logo looks and in my opinion fits the page better. Do you have an objection to that?
