Ways to improve Abiodun Alao

Hi, I'm Mduvekot. Standtall78, thanks for creating Abiodun Alao!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. Please make an effort to write in a neutral tone, suitbale for an encyclopedia. There is no need to enbellish the subject's accomplishments. For example: You could rewrite "Among Alao's continuous academic endeavours was being a part of the team" as "Alao was part of the team". Some of the text simply makes no sense. I'm not sure, for example, what "numerous teaching and research engagements have made him a public intellectual who has extended the findings of his scholarship beyond any restrictive domains" even means.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse.

Thank you, I wrote on my user page thinking I was adhering to the information I was asked to provide regarding a (COI) before creating the article. This was what I declared "I love Wikipedia. It is an unbeatable online encyclopaedia. I love to help create missing content from African perspectives especially of its people (known to me or unknown to me, including myself) who are making a difference, dismantling oppressive systems and transforming lives." For this, I receive no dime. I am only amplyfing voices and showcasing people with valuable contributions. Will this not suffice?

Also, are there editors such as yourself who would take a look and clean-up this article?

Hello, I was coming to respond to you, and I realised you have updated the COI tag to another category. I thought other editors were also allowed to improve the content of the article? May I know where the undisclosed payment is coming from? That can't be farther from the truth.

Disclosing partially, my relationship with Ajao is not the same as violating Wikipedia's policy of paying for an article or evading your questions.

I became guarded only because of how you proceeded with your query.

I was coming to respond to you with a full disclosure when I saw that you had retagged the article.

You didn't wait for any confirmation or reply from me before proceeding to do that, even though I had honestly told you it was not paid for, and that I knew the subject.

You haven't given me any chance at all to feel safe to continue this discussion with you.

So:

1. May I know why you moved swiftly to undisclosed paid when I was still engaging with you?

2. May I know why you didn't acknowledge the imrprovement on the page based on your suggestions?

3. May I know why you did not edit the page for neutrality yourself?

I changed the tag to undisclosed paid because you have several times here avoided clarifying the nature of your connection, and undisclosed paid seemed a reasonable inference.

I hereby acknowledge the improvements you've made, thanks, but that's beside the point.

I've made minimal edits myself (mostly merging duplicate references and some edits for MOS:LAYOUT), because the article needs a complete rewrite: it reads like a cross between a magazine article and a résumé.

If you took the close-up picture of Ajao in the course of your work with her, then that would further indicate a conflict of interest.

I haven't avoided clarifying my connection. I answered you, but you were dissatisfied with my responses.

I made a disclosure, but you considered it insufficient. And your line of query was making me feel like you are looking for a particular fault, to prove that it is a paid job?

I recalled that at the beginning of our conversation, you didn't want to be involved beyond pointing me in the direction of what to do, but my follow-up reply led to more questions without you attempting to answer any of my concerns. Everything turned into interrogations.

If you look at when I started contributing to Wikipedia over a decade ago, my first article was flagged for deletion because it didn't meet Wikipedia criteria. But other editors were collaborative and helpful. I was not punished for being a novice. I was guided.

And the issue was resolved, and the article published. And I have published/edited many more since then. So, that was not beside the point because I do not know how else a biography should be written.

But if the writing style is problematic for you, suggest the rewrite process and alert other editors to assist. Otherwise, I am happy if you take the issue to the Conflict of Interest Noticeboard.

I will be on the lookout for that.

So, this happens because you are sharing an IP address with a blocked user. I don't know what IP address you are using (or were using, when the block hit). Let's say it's a university or a coffee shop. Unfortunately, you are just going to hit autoblocks every so often in such locations. The main reason for this decline is that the sources are not providing good quality secondary coverage. There are a number of scrape / aggregator sites, such as encyclopedia.com which came of Cengage, so self published. There are interviews and YouTube material, which don't help notability. What we are looking for here is WP:BASIC so that could involve 3 newspaper profiles at significant length, from newspapers known for reliable coverage - or something similar to that. Separately - and this is not related to the decline here, but doesn't help matters - is the WP:REFBOMB. If there is one good quality source then that's great. Women in Green's October 2026 Edit-a-thon

WikiProject Women in Green is holding a month-long Good Article Edit-a-thon event in October 2026!

Running from October 1 to 31, 2026, WikiProject Women in Green (WiG) is hosting a Good Article (GA) edit-a-thon event with the theme Around the World in 31 Days! All experience levels welcome. Participants are invited to work on nominating and/or reviewing GA submissions related to women and women's works (e.g., books, films or organizations created by women) during the event period — and this time, we are extending our focus to encourage more Did You Know (DYK) submissions spotlighting new GA articles about women and women's works. We hope to collectively cover article subjects from at least 31 countries (or broader international articles) by the event's end. GA resources and one-on-one support will be provided by experienced editors, and participants will have the opportunity to earn a special WiG barnstar for their efforts.
