Discussion about WikiProject banner templates

For WikiProjects that participate in rating articles, the banners for talk pages usually say something like:

• "This article has been rated as Low-importance on the importance scale."

There is a proposal to change the default wording on the banners to say "priority" instead of "importance". This could affect the template for your group. Archival photos of theatrical productions from the Stadttheater Bern for use on Wikipedia

Hello,

I am writing to inform you that we have imported nearly 1,000 photos of theatrical performances taken by Fred Erismann between 1933 and 1968 as part of his work as a photographer for the Stadttheater in Bern into Wikimedia Commons. The rights of reuse were released by his daughter when she donated her father's archives to the SAPA Foundation (Swiss Performing Arts Archives). On behalf of this foundation, we imported the photos with certain structured metadata into Commons, then added links to the images in the corresponding production entries in Wikidata (project page on Wikidata).

The photos are recordings of performances or rehearsals. The plays performed can be identified using the metadata imported into Commons. The name of the play can be found under “Title” and by following the link under “Source” you can also find the photograph's entry directly in the performing-arts.ch database managed by the SAPA Foundation. In this entry, the description of the production itself can be found under “Subject”.

You can find these photos in the Commons category Fonds Erismann (SAPA-A-1553). You can also filter photos using these different queries:

Unfortunately, we do not have any information about the people depicted in the photos. However, we hope that some of you will be able to identify them.

Draft:Manon Bannerman

Hello. I’ve been improving Draft:Manon Bannerman, a draft about the Swiss singer and Katseye member. The draft had previously been questioned on standalone notability, so I’ve since added more independent coverage and reworked the career section with a more careful, BLP-conscious approach.

I’ve also expanded the Swiss-specific sourcing. In particular, Swiss media have treated Bannerman’s 2026 Grammy milestone as historically significant, describing her as the first Swiss artist nominated in a Grammy General Field category and the first Swiss woman to perform at the ceremony as a member of Katseye.

I’d be very grateful for any feedback on whether the draft now makes a stronger case for a standalone article from a sourcing and notability perspective, and whether there are any final improvements you would recommend before AfC review. Thank you very much. 21mis (talk) 10:11, 15 April 2026 (UTC)

Swissdox on the Wikipedia Library

Swissdox, the best database of digitized Swiss newspapers, is now available on The Wikipedia Library. It's under the Available Collections tab and you'll have to apply for it. This is great for researching more recent topics that e-newspaperarchives.ch doesn't cover due to embargoes, as Swissdox has the most recent articles from all the major newspapers and also includes online-only sources. Communal website - Good data resource ?

Are communal websites a good resource for data ? Especially for population, the mayor, and such topics ? Just need to confirm because I am considering updating mayors for multiple municipalities in my district (Jura bernois). LureciLuvani (talk) 13:45, 19 May 2026 (UTC)

@LureciLuvani I think communal websites are fine for basic information like who the mayor is. It might be better to get population statistics from the Federal Statistical Office directly, since their numbers should be more accurate and up-to-date, but it is challenging to find the data on their website... Population data for all Swiss municipalities and districts can be found in a spreadsheet here: https://www.bfs.admin.ch/bfs/en/home/statistics/population/effectif-change.assetdetail.36073831.html Updated data for 2025 might be available soon. AFAIK, there will not be a new census in the future. The numbers are collected directly by the municipalities and are sent to the federal statistics office. Uschoen (talk) 04:38, 29 May 2026 (UTC)

I'd like to ask just another question also, do we use communal websites for town pictures or can we go ourselves out there and make pictures of the places ? Since I live in the region I am updating the data of.

@LureciLuvani You are allowed any free picture, which means any picture that is not under copyright or has a license that allows commercial reuse (usually Creative Commons). You are welcome to upload pictures you have taken to Wikimedia Commons using their upload form, after which you'll be able to add the images to articles on any Wikipedia or other Wikimedia project. Renaming of [year] Swiss referendums

I would rather not directly jump to an RM and hear from a few of you here: I think many of the articles in Category:Referendums in Switzerland are at the wrong place, specifically the articles of the "[year] Swiss referendums" scheme. They usually discuss all the votes that took place in a specific year, in the context of Switzerland the titles are therefore misleading since referendum is a distinct political process from Federal popular initiatives. I therefore think these articles should be called something like [year] Swiss federal votes. However I'm open for the exact titling convention. Squawk7700 (talk) 16:55, 18 July 2026 (UTC)

Good point. Wouldn't "federal votes" potentially include elections as well? I think you are correct on how these terms are used in Switzerland, but popular initiatives do fall under the general English definition of the word "referendum", so I would need a solid alternative to believe that this move is beneficial.

The category also seems to include some subnational votes, like 2024 Basel-Stadt Eurovision expenditure referendum, which is a bit messy. Toadspike [Talk] 00:02, 19 July 2026 (UTC)

When was the merger of the Bodensee–Toggenburg railway with Südostbahn?

The text of Bodensee–Toggenburg railway says these two merged on 1 January 2001 (lead paragraph), with the history section of the page clarifying this was agreed to take effect retroactively. The only reference I can find is "Swiss Merger Agreed". Railway Gazette International. 1 May 2001. Retrieved 23 July 2026. which says agreement was reached in March 2001 to merge effective 1 January 2002. The German version says 1 Jan 2001, but with no reference.

The Südostbahn page says the merger occurred at the "end of 2001".

Hi Newystats, nice to meet you! I had a look around, it seems like the definite decision for the merger was made on 17 Dec 2001. It was indeed made to be effective retroactively 1 Jan 2001. March seems to be when the board proposed this merger to the shareholders. One of the sources talking about this is an article from the NZZ archive. It is discussed in more detail in other articles in the Neue Luzerner Zeitung, which I could only find on Swissdox. Let me know if you need help accessing any of those. Cheers! Wägli in Schienennetz Schweiz gives the date of January 1, 2002. According to this article in the Thurgauer Zeitung the merger was formally approved by the shareholders in late December 2001. It's entirely possible that the merger was retroactive to 1 January 2001, I've seen that with railway mergers in Switzerland, but I think the 2002 date is preferable.
