2024 is ending, time for a last look at the #traffic to @heiseonline via X/ #Twitter and its alternatives.

#Mastodon was very stable, which made it the biggest source by the end of the year. #Bluesky grew significantly at the end and is now clearly in second place. #X fell the whole year, and our departure (from posting there) just accelerated that. But #Threads (where we can't post automatically) is still far behind.

But I forgot, that's not just via @heiseonline, but also @heisec, @ct_Magazin, @heiseautos, @iX_Magazin etc. (but for Twitter its the same).

Inzwischen haben fast zwei Drittel der Follower von @heiseonline #Mastodon mindestens in Version 4.3.0 und ich bilde mir ein, erste Folgen zu erkennen. Wir sehen womöglich wirklich wieder mehr #Traffic – heute liegt das #Fediverse bislang bspw. vor #Twitter.

Ist natürlich eine Momentaufnahme und X macht immer große Sprünge, aber noch bekommen ja auch viele auf Mastodon weiter jene Vorschaukarten zu sehen, bei denen wir einen Klick darauf nicht zuordnen können. Das behebt das jüngste Update.

Wenn #Mastodon endlich v4.3.0 erreicht, dürfte Twitter klar abgehängt sein. Dann werden wir nach einem Jahr Unterbrechung endlich sehen, wo wir bezüglich #Traffic von #Mastodon auf @heiseonline wirklich stehen. Hoffentlich ist es bald soweit.

But now it comes: I just now realized, that people on mastodon.social already see the whole URL in the preview-cards from @heiseonline. That means, that for about a fourth of our followers (social.heise.de/@mho/111450312…) we see, when they click on them.

If I extrapolate from the notable uptick in january, it seems to show, that #Mastodon brings in as much #traffic as #X / #Twitter. Can't wait to prove that, when 4.3.0. rolls out.

Zeit für ein Update zu den Zugriffszahlen auf @heiseonline über #Mastodon etc.

Zwar sehen wir weiterhin nicht allen #Traffic aus dem #Fediverse (das Problem mit den Artikelvorschauen ohne URL-Parameter), aber die Zahlen sind gestiegen. Vorn weiter #Flipboard vor #X / #Twitter. #Threads und #Bluesky abgeschlagen.

Ich warte weiter, dass @Flipboard föderiert, dann kann ich das zum Fediverse addieren. Und natürlich auf Version 4.3.0, damit wir wieder ein klares Bild zu Mastodon/Fediverse bekommen.

Just a quick update regarding #traffic sources for @heiseonline:

I still can track only a part of the traffic that comes via #Mastodon (the issue with the stripped URLs in the preview), but as you can see, #X/Twitter was overtaken – by @Flipboard. And soon this traffic will come from the #Fediverse.

But as I've said multiple times, I'm certain, that already the #Fediverse is generating more traffic than #Twitter, but I can't prove it – yet.

#Threads and #Bluesky are still far, far behind.
