Changes made on the Tai Ping carpentry page

Hi, I hope this message finds you well. I am hoping you could clarify the reasons for your adjustments on the wikipedia page that I was working on? Primarily the reason for reversing the version to a much earlier date. You cited 'Possible AI slop that violates WP:NPOV and COI editing', could you establish what are some the more notable errors that flare out? After further review I can notice some sections that do have some issues regarding NPOV, but could you clarify on the COI section a little more? Hi @RayTaiPing. Sorry for taking quite a while to get back to you. First, to clarify my specific reasons for reverting your edits: most of your additions, such as "Tai Ping specializes in handcrafted carpets, employing techniques such as hand-tufting, hand-knotting, and sculpting handcrafted by skilled artisans using techniques honed over decades" are not written in a neutral tone. Additionally, instead of reliable sources, ~15 of the references you added are all different pages from the same website as the article subject. Second, you should disclose your COI following one or more of the methods outlined here: Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#howtodisclose, and instead of making direct changes to the article, you should propose your changes on the article's talk page (see template {{Edit COI}}.) Yeah I was about to ask for a horizontal version.

So I was asking LLMs for feedback on articles with User:Polygnotus/Scripts/AI_Proofreader and then I realized it would be more efficient to just generate a bunch in advance so that people without API credits could work on them. User:Polygnotus/Scripts/Backlog.js. And then I thought, what if I ask an LLM if a source supports a claim, and if so which exact sentence(s) User:Polygnotus/Scripts/AI_Source_Verification. My User:Polygnotus/Scripts/AI Editsummary was kinda a dud in the sense that Claude believes that I remove vandalism when I vandalise an article, no matter how clearly I try to present the temporal relation. Polygnotus (talk) 16:34, 16 November 2025 (UTC)

@Polygnotus If you wrap them in a div with display: grid; grid-template-columns: 1fr;, along with setting something like |card_width=50%, it becomes horizontal; not as pretty as the default though.

User:Polygnotus/Scripts/AI Source Verification.js looks interesting. I'll play around with it (Gemini), although AIs seem to be notorious at hallucating content of a given URL. — DVRTed (Talk) 16:38, 16 November 2025 (UTC)

Yeah you have to triplecheck if it actually was able to reach the URL, because it will happily hallucinate whatever you want to hear if it can't. Probably best to have the script fetch the page and feed it to the LLM. Personally I prefer Claude, but it is difficult to compete with free. Polygnotus (talk) 16:40, 16 November 2025 (UTC)

@Polygnotus: User:Polygnotus/Scripts/AI_Editsummary.js#L-185 I think the results will be significantly better if you feed AI only the diff, like +added line, -removed line, and not the entire page; you can format it like that yourself or use mw:API:Compare. — DVRTed (Talk) 17:04, 16 November 2025 (UTC)

@DVRTed, User:Polygnotus and I decided to move the AI Source Verification script to my user space (User:Alaexis/AI Source Verification). I've made a few changes to it, including claim detection, UX, a proxy for fetching website data and a free model for those who don't know how to get API keys.

Hi DVRTed. I'm not going to you on reply on Supreme Deliciousness' Talk page as that is likely to be used as an excuse for further kvetching and trolling but I just want to assure you that that was not an overreaction, in fact I worry that I may have been overgenerous. If I had been aware of how long they have been causing trouble on Wikipedia then I might have taken it straight to the noticeboards but I didn't check that until after I posted that warning. Check their contributions. Check their block log. This isn't some rando who just wandered in off the street and doesn't know what goes on around here. This shows clear and intentional trolling. They know Doug's circumstances and they thought that they would try to cause him trouble. Yes broke here, same:Special:Diff/1315720789/1317361821. Console is showing tons of "NS_ERROR" type failures:

I tried unfortunately not seeing any console messages with author-link .. the NS_ERROR are old messages I think, cleared those. Now see only a couple error messages:

LOL. I'm sure there is an explanation but probably at a deep level of obscurity. My theory was a conflict with other scripts (I have a lot loaded), and maybe it loads them in order, so getting this in first would help. I'm not sure how the userscript system works in memory, maybe there are global variables or functions with the same names overlapping. -- GreenC 16:40, 6 December 2025 (UTC)

Filtering

I did do some filtering experiments for history and contrib pages: User:Polygnotus/Scripts/Filter.js and User:Polygnotus/Scripts/FilterTags.js and User:Polygnotus/Scripts/NamespaceFilter.js and User:Polygnotus/Scripts/FilterPages.js. Because I am lazy I just filtered whatever was already on the page, that usually works fine.

I think making a semi-decent script that can filter history and contrib and whatlinkshere pages based on namespace(s), tag(s), and editsummaries could be very popular.

Interesting, thank you! I use my poetically named 'wikiTool2' but that is written in Java. I asked my wife if I could name our first three kids 'kid0', 'kid1' and 'Bob' (if its a girl) but she didn't think that is funny at all.

Oh, this is nice! I went into a spiral thinking and coding of a way to add extra filters onto the existing form and replacing the "Search" button with something that makes custom API request—it was very complicated rendering similar HTML based on the API response with pagination and all that. But with this: filtering after the "vanilla" page is rendered is a lot simpler. Maybe use the OO.ui input components so it looks consistent with everything else: https://doc.wikimedia.org/mediawiki-core/1.31.6/js/#!/api/OO.ui.ButtonInputWidget. We can steal the "collapsibility" from Special:Contributions's Search for contributions-thing and store the state in localStorage, a bit like User:Polygnotus/Scripts/temp2.js. Possible issue with AINB-helper

In this case:

Wikipedia:AI noticeboard/2026-07-10 MaduraiSelvam

the helper seems to have missed at least five articles; they have subsequently been manually added at the top. No idea why.

@M kuhner Hello! See User:DVRTed/AINB-helper § Fun facts. The script ignores edits that are tagged with mw-reverted. That's what happened with Punnaikayal: Gurkubondinn reverted the edits at 13:09, 10 July 2026 and created the tracking subpage at 13:12, 10 July 2026. There are two intersecting problems: I forgot to change the tag when moving from one case to another, and the name of the Abdulrehmann92 case does not have "User" in it. I am thinking we need to write a script for making new AINB cases, because allowing free variation in the case name is leading to some funny-looking and confusing messages.

Oops. I can see how the saved state can be confusing across multiple tabs if you're tagging pages from different users at the same time. I am thinking we need to write a script for making new AINB cases It's probably better to instead make Wikipedia:AI noticeboard/Header's "Start a new discussion" button also set the section title to User: along with the rest of the preload. New default wording

Hello! Thanks so much for implementing my suggestion about the default wording. However, since your edit to the script, the default text is now phrased "Please do not remove this tag before...". I think it needs to say "Please do not remove this tag without...", because if it says "before" this could potentially sound like it is saying the opposite of what we mean: that is to say, we do want them to remove the tag before following the instructions (if they remove the tag at all), but the point is that we don't want them to remove the tag without following the instructions. Another query: I've noticed that, whereas with the LLMPROD you have a checkbox you can set to mark the tracker as "ongoing" or not, adding an AI tag to the article automatically updates the tracker to "completed" without there being any checkbox for this. I wonder if this is quite right? I would have thought that, when an article is tagged, this ought not generally to affect its setting on the tracker, and it ought normally to be left at "To-do/requested", since adding a tag doesn't mean that the cleanup is done; usually it means it hasn't even started yet. I requested it that way.

For a month or so I marked tagged pages as "in progress" because in theory I hoped to get back to them and clean them better. In practice...all it did was make the count of unaddressed pages inaccurate. I try to write good notes so we can see if something got tagged that needed more attention. Having a button to stop this happening would be fine, of course (but I likely wouldn't use it).
