Difficulty using harvnb template

I'm struggling to make a short-cite work on the climate sensitivity page. The reference after: The IPCC literature assessment estimates that TCR likely lies between 1 °C and 2.5 °C does not link to the full citation given in the sources section. I've tried a lot of different options and no idea what to try next. Could anybody more technically skilled than me have a look? Many thanks! Femke Nijsse (talk) 08:16, 20 April 2019 (UTC)

@Femkemilene: I said ref= harv in the full citation. "Collins et al. 2013" now links there. PrimeHunter (talk) 10:25, 20 April 2019 (UTC)

Because in the {{harvnb}} you listed four individual authors but in the {{citation}} template you had |ref={{harvid|IPCC AR5 WG12013}}. Editor PrimeHunter changed that to |ref=harv. I removed that because {{citation}} sets |ref=harv automatically. I suspect that this problem is a carry-over from the silliness that confuses matters by naming title abbreviations as authors: |author=IPCC AR5 WG1 and |author=IPCC AR4 WG1 in the top two citation templates in §Sources but then, in the separate chapter {{citation}} templates, redefines that same 'author' name in |title=IPCC AR5 WG1. Yeah, don't do that. When taken in isolation (and these citations may be because cs1|2 create metadata that can be / is scraped by automated citation tools) the isolated citation claiming that 'IPCC AR5 WG1' will be wrong and mislead readers using that scraped data.

Why has shading appeared on part of an edit I have done ?

@AndrewHart500: Fixed. There was a space in front of the very first character of your edit, which will produce the shaded area of text. Also fixed some curly apostrophes to straight ones. Some copy-editing may be necessary to make the language a little more neutral and encyclopedic. Please remember to sign your posts on talk pages by typing four tildes (~~~~). Thank you. How fast do we want to kill-off Wikipedia®

And there's no letter K on the startup index of subjects. Wikipedia will see a big spurt of newcomers when volunteers and staff do a thorough house cleaning. See what's old, new, passé.

"Kraut Rock" LOVE it. More than the new Grunge description of lifestyle and musician techniques. But now I can't find it. Wikipedia must have thousands of fans and contributors overseas in Europe, the Middle East, almost everywhere. They might be willing and anxious to help. Are there really Five Levels for making format and content suggestions for Wikipedia? I've thought it's more easy going tossing around ideas. Not five stages and levels. Anyway, thank you all for listening.

Hello Jim. Do you have a question about how to edit Wikipedia? I am not sure what you mean by a startup index, but you can find a list of all Wikipedia articles beginning with K at Special:AllPages/K. And we do have an article about Kraut rock. It's true that Wikipedia:Glossary had the J and K run together in the alphabetical contents bar (now fixed). But that glossary is only for special terms used within the Wikipedia project. To find Wikipedia articles, the commonest way is just to use the "Search Wikipedia" box present on every Wikipedia page. There are over 5 million articles now, so any search structure is bound to be complex. There is the alphabetical listing for any letter or group of letters, as the post above says. Then there is Portal:Contents, then there are systems of categories, indices, outlines, (dare I mention) portals...: Bhunacat10 (talk), 13:40, 20 April 2019 (UTC)

Michelle Ayodele McKinney Hammond (born August 6, 1957) is the best-selling author of over 40 books, with over two million copies sold worldwide. Her best-selling titles include What To Do Until Love Finds You, The Diva Principle, Sassy, Single and Satisfied, 101 Ways to Get and Keep His Attention, and Secrets of an Irresistible Woman.

She is also an ordained minister, international speaker, singer/songwriter, actress, producer and television presenter as well as an ambassador for Compassion International.

Michelle has spoken for churches, conferences and corporate events from EWomen, Women of Virtue, The Potters House, World Changers, New Birth, The Crystal Cathedral, KICC, to Walmart.

A gifted songwriter/vocalist, Michelle has recorded four solo CD’s, It’s Amazing, Let’s Go In, Come Let Us Worship, and With Love.

She is the visionary and pastor of Relevance, a unique music ministry in Ghana, West Africa. The Early Years

Born Michelle Sharon Branker, in London, England August 6, 1957. She relocated to Barbados, West Indies at the age of two. She attended St. Gabriels’ Girls School until she relocated to the United States at age seven settling in Muskegon, Michigan. She attended Froebel Elementary, East Grace Loftis Elementary, Muskegon Heights Junior High, and Catholic Central High School. Adopted by her mothers’ new husband, William McKinney her last name was changed to Michelle McKinney. Upon being reunited with her natural father George Hammond, years later her middle name was changed to her original name Ayodele and the name Hammond was added to her name. Thus, her present name Michelle Ayodele McKinney Hammond. She worked at The Muskegon Chronicle while attending Muskegon Junior College studying Graphic Arts. She then moved to Chicago, Illinois and attended Ray Vogue School of Design and completed a course on Commercial Art. 1979-1991 Michelle spent 15 years as an award-winning art director/copywriter/producer at the largest AA advertising agency in the US, Burrell Communications. Her clients included Coca Cola USA, McDonald’s, Procter & Gamble, GMC and Ford Motor Company. She worked with numerous celebrities including Aretha Franklin, Earth,Wind and Fire, Nancy Wilson, Don Cheadle, Ray Parker Jr., New Edition, The Temptations, Al Jarreau, Kool and the Gang, Peabo Bryson, Kristoff St. John, Richard Lawson, Dennis Haysbert. The O Jays and many more. She won numerous awards including a USA Television Award, Windy Award, a Gold & Bronze Philo, and over 20 CEBA (Creative Excellence in Black Advertising Awards)

Michelle has sung or performed voice-overs for national radio and television commercials for Coca-Cola, McDonald’s, Sprite, Ford Motor Company, Crest Toothpaste and Extra Sugar-Free Gum.

There is a parent task at phab:T120764. Also, it appears that User:Cenarium fixed a related issue in 2016, phab:T20954, and it got deployed then. So the issue of log searching hasn't been stuck forever. There was some mention of having to create new indexes, which was a deterrent to going ahead. There was a 2015 Community Wishlist entry at meta:Community Wishlist Survey 2015/Special pages#Improve Special:Log. EdJohnston (talk) 17:19, 20 April 2019 (UTC)

Muting already-read text on a frequently-visited page

Is it possible to mute (hide, make smaller or lighter) text on a frequently-visited page so that when the same logged-in user returns to it the next time, any new text added since the last time stands out more clearly? I'm not talking about mainspace articles, but examples that would help me would be the Reference Desk pages and this Help Desk. I've been using the "skip to bottom" shortcut to start reading the newest material and then scrolling up until I recognize a section I've read previously, but there should be a more elegant way to do this.--Thomprod (talk) 19:10, 20 April 2019 (UTC)

Thomprod, I usually browse pages like that using my watchlist, which has changes grouped by page (setting in Preferences > Recent changes > Advanced options > Group changes by page). That gives me a handy "Changes since last visit" link that I can click to take me to the diff, and also makes my watchlist less cluttered with the frequently changing pages.
