Introduction

Articles for creation (AfC) is Wikipedia's process for reviewing proposed new draft articles before they are published in the encyclopedia. It is used by new and unregistered editors who cannot create articles directly, and by editors with a conflict of interest who are encouraged to submit new articles for independent review.

AfC reviewers assess submitted drafts against Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. The basic question is whether a draft is likely to survive in mainspace: submissions that are ready are accepted, while those with substantive problems are declined with feedback explaining what needs to be addressed. Reviewers can also reject submissions where there is little reasonable prospect of the topic becoming suitable for an article.

Reviewers are volunteers. There is often a backlog of submissions, but there is no requirement to review quickly. Careful consistent reviews and useful feedback are more important than the number of drafts reviewed!

How to get involved

We need you! Reviewers are experienced editors trusted to decide whether submitted drafts are ready for the encyclopaedia and to give submitters clear and constructive feedback. You do not need to memorise every policy or subject-specific notability guideline! You should know the core principles, recognise when a more specialised rule may apply, and be willing to check or ask for help when you are unsure.

Requirements

Reviewers must:

have a Wikipedia account at least 90 days old;
have at least 500 undeleted edits to articles (not 500 total edits);
have read and understood the AfC reviewing instructions;
demonstrate a good understanding of the policies and guidelines relevant to AfC reviewing, including notability guidelines and deletion policy;
be willing to respond to questions from draft authors about their reviews.

Helpful experience

The following experience is also helpful:

experience with CSD, AfD, PROD, anti-vandalism, or other deletion and article-review processes;
familiarity with common signs of LLM-generated text and with identifying hallucinated, non-existent, or misrepresented references.

If you do not yet meet the requirements, we recommend gaining relevant experience by creating and developing articles, participating in Articles for deletion, proposed deletion and speedy deletion, and becoming familiar with Wikipedia's notability and verifiability requirements.

You are also welcome to familiarise yourself with the AfC process by reading the reviewing instructions, browsing current drafts and previous reviews, and observing how experienced editors advise draft authors at the AfC Help desk.

How to review

Article submissions must be reviewed in accordance with Wikipedia's established policies and guidelines and the reviewing instructions.

If you are unsure about a review, ask for help. You can use the AfC talk page, find a reviewer familiar with the subject, or ask in the #articles-for-creation channel in the NPP Discord.

To request access to the AfC Helper Script, follow the instructions at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Articles for creation/Participants. Administrators and New Page Patrollers already have access to the helper script and do not need to request it.

Hi, and welcome to WikiProject Articles for creation! We are editors who work together on Articles for creation, Redirects for creation, Categories for creation, and Files for upload.

Some helpful places to get started:

Read the reviewing instructions before reviewing draft articles. Redirects, categories, and file requests have their own reviewing instructions.
Find draft submissions on the Articles for Creation tab of Special:NewPagesFeed. You can filter drafts by clicking Set filters and choose from the available filters what kinds of drafts you would like to review. You can also find a list at Category:Pending AfC submissions. Submissions sorted by their predicted category can be found at Wikipedia:AfC sorting.
Ask for help at the project talk page. You can also chat with other reviewers in the New Page Patrol Discord server.
The AfC help desk is where draft authors can ask questions about their submissions. Reviewers are welcome to help answer them.
If you would like to show your involvement with the project, there is a project userbox, and you may add yourself to the list of reviewers by subject.

There is no requirement to review submissions quickly or to clear the backlog. Take the time needed to make careful, consistent reviews and give useful feedback!

WikiProject Articles for creation is looking for experienced editors interested in reviewing draft articles submitted through the Articles for creation process!

Reviewers assess whether drafts are ready for the encyclopedia, accepting suitable submissions and giving clear and constructive feedback where substantive problems remain. Reviewers are expected to understand Wikipedia's core content and deletion policies, but there is no requirement to review quickly or to clear the backlog.

If you are interested, see how to get involved and read the reviewing instructions. If you are unsure about a review or would like advice from other reviewers, ask at the project talk page.

There are currently over 2000 pending submissions.
