I like my desserts bitter, spiced, savory, or overall less sugary. So it’s hard for me to find sweets that aren’t too … sweet. Most of the time, I snack on dark chocolate bars (the higher the percentage, the better), but I’m always searching for new options — especially for pairing with my favorite activities, like going to the movies and enjoying cold desserts.

Much like E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, I too have an affinity for peanut butter candies. The nutty, salty, and slightly sweet confection is one of my go-to movie theater snacks, but because of its sugar content I tend not to grab it often. But after a recent trip to Whole Foods, I found an alternative that’s become my latest movie companion — and my new favorite way to elevate desserts (and even breakfast!).

The New Unreal Peanut Butter Drops Are the Perfect Not-Too-Sweet Candy

I first noticed Unreal Peanut Butter Drops in the snack and candy aisle of my local Whole Foods Market. The bright-orange bags are the latest addition to the brand’s impressive lineup. (The dark chocolate coconut bars are unreal.) The product dropped in early June 2026 and is available online, and you can find them in stores if you’re lucky.

The colorful outer shells are prominently displayed on the packaging, so I initially assumed these would be super-sugary like similar candies that have the same appearance. But once I saw the peanut butter label, my curiosity was piqued — I knew I had to try them. According to the product listing, they have 33% less sugar than “the leading brand,” and these hard candy shells are filled with creamy organic peanut butter that makes them an excellent treat for people like me with a not-so-sweet tooth.

At four ounces per bag, it’s also the perfect size for sharing or storing in a desk drawer (or nightstand — no judgement here!) when you want a little something to snack on. Best of all, their bright colors come from nature: turmeric, red beet, red radish, and spirulina give them their bold (and tasty) hues.

What’s the Best Way to Enjoy Unreal Peanut Butter Drops?

So far, my favorite way to enjoy Unreal Peanut Butter Drops has been at the movies, whether it’s eating them by the handful or sprinkling a few into my popcorn bucket. I also like to top coffee ice cream or frozen bananas with a dark chocolate drizzle and the crushed candy pieces. The drops are also a delicious addition to my favorite chocolate chip cookies or Rice Krispies Treats.

Next, I’ll be adding a few of these to my pancake batter for the ultimate sweet and savory breakfast, as well as a salted brownie recipe that’s been on my radar.
