NDLEA Discovers Cocaine Hidden in Shoes

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested three suspects after discovering some cocaine inside shoe soles at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

The consignment of shoes in which the drugs were found originated from Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The owner of the luggage was arrested alongside two other suspects said to have excreted ingested drugs.

According to the NDLEA spokesperson, Mr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, 3.950kg of cocaine was recovered from the suspects.

Drug Suspect Breaks Through Glass Wall To Evade Arrest At Abuja Airport

National Drug Laws and Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Monday rearrested a drug suspect Michael Nwobodo Alli, 31, after breaking through a glass wall in an attempt to escape at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA) Abuja.

He was found in possession of 81 pellets of hard drugs packed in a clean Parker Whisky carton along with boxes of chocolates in a duty free bag, spokesman of the anti-narcotic agency Ofoyeju Mitchell said in statement.

The arrest took place during screening of passengers on an Emirates airline flight from Dubai.

As soon as the drug was detected, the suspect took to his heels breaking through a glass wall but was pursued by narcotic officers and apprehended with the help of security officials at the airport. Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect resides in Dubai where he works as a technician.

NDLEA Arrests Mother Of Three With 904 Grammes of Cocaine at Abuja Airport

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) yesterday arrested Mrs. Saidat Bola Hassan at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja. 

The 48 year old mother of three was scheduled to fly to Jedda, Saudi Arabia, via an Egypt Airline flight en-route Cairo when she was apprehended during screening.

She had ingested about 80 wraps of a white powdery substance weighing 904 grammes that later tested positive for cocaine.

NDLEA Abuja airport Commander Mr. Hamisu Lawan said that efforts were made to protect her from any harm resulting from drug ingestion.

“As soon as we discovered that the suspected wraps she vomited tested positive for cocaine, we took measures to ensure her safety by preventing any harm that may result from drug ingestion.

Man Who Tried To Export Drugs In Crayfish To China Arrested At MMIA

38-year old Anambra-born alleged drug smuggler, Jude Izuchukwu was arrested this week at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos by officials of NDLEA while attempting to board an Ethiopian flight to China. Jude was caught with 9.375kg of cannabis concealed in dried fish, dried bitter leaf, crayfish, melon and other local food spices he was travelling with.

He blamed his involvement with drugs on poverty and said he had no choice but to join the trade since his clothes shop on Lagos Island packed up after he was duped of N5 million. He also said he and his family have been living from hand to mouth since then.

19-yr-old Pakistani Caught with N228m Worth of Heroin at MMIA

A 19 year old Pakistani student named Iftikihar Muhammed Arslan, (pictured above) has been arrested by officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency(NDLEA) for possession and attempted smuggling of 25.400kg of heroin said to be worth N228m into Nigeria, Vanguard reports
Arslan was apprehended at the Muritala Mohammed International Airport during inward screening on passengers on board a Qatar Airways flight. 25 parcels containing the hard drugs were discovered in his luggage.

 

The suspect believed to be in a drug cartel through his passport showed that he left Lahore, Pakistan with the drugs to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, then Doha, in Qatar, from where he connected to Lagos. Continue...

In his confessional statement, Arslan denied knowledge of the drugs in his bag, saying he was here in Nigeria to experience the beauty of Victoria Island and Ikoyi

"I am a student of Punjab College and I am in Nigeria as a tourist because my friend told me that Victoria Island and Ikoyi are beautiful tourist centres. Unfortunately, when I arrived at the Lagos airport, the heroin was found in my luggage. This is my first time of coming to Nigeria and I had intended to spend a week or two.” he said.

NDLEA Arrests Two with Cocaine, Diazepam Injections

An electronics merchant, Udoji Chike, has been arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, for being in possession of eight kilogrammes of Diazepam injections.

The NDLEA also arrested an alleged drug trafficker for being in possession of 80 wraps of powdery substance suspected to be cocaine at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Rivers State.

The discovery in Lagos was said to have been made at the departure hall of the airport while the suspect was about to board an Arik flight to Liberia.

NDLEA’s Head of Public Affairs, Mr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, said the injections were disguised as packs of Alabukun powder, an unregulated drug.

Nigerian Drug Scourge: NDLEA Indicts Ethiopian Airline

Two suspected drug traffickers held by officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have blamed their friend for luring them into the criminal act. Even as the agency said Ethiopian airline has become synonymous with the illicit trade.

The men were apprehended for attempting to export 4.285kg of methamphetamine to India. According to spokesperson of the agency, Mitchell Ofoyeju, the arrests took place at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos during routine search on passengers boarding Ethiopian airline flight to India. The substance that tested positive for methamphetamine is valued at 68.5 million naira.

The drug according to the NDLEA Airport Commander, Mr. Hamza Umar was hidden inside a brown luggage. The names of the suspects are Eboro Joe Okwudili, 41 years old and Opara Daniel 30 years old. Hamza explained that “Eboro was the person travelling while Opara Daniel was assigned to monitor Eboro to avoid diversion of the drug. During screening, the drug was discovered in his luggage at the baggage checking desk”.

Two Die As NDLEA, Soldiers Raid Akala

No fewer than two youths were allegedly killed, while seven others sustained gunshot wounds on Saturday after operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency and the Nigerian Army raided Akala Street, Odi-Olowo, Mushin Local Government Area, Lagos.

It was learnt that the security agents, acting on a tip-off, had stormed the area which is notorious for drug peddling.

A resident, Rahman Ogunsanya, told our correspondent that most of the youths were watching a football match when the incident occurred.

He said, “Around 6pm on Saturday, we were watching the match between Chelsea Football Club and Newcastle FC at a viewing centre on Akala Street when some NDLEA officials and army men attached to OP MESA, stormed the area.

32 Year Old Nigerian Woman Excretes Hard Drugs Inside Aircraft

Chizoba Anya, a Nigerian lady, has excreted wraps of substance that tested positive for methamphetamine on-board a Qatar Airline Flight from Malaysia to Nigeria, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, said on Monday.

NDLEA said the 32-year old suspect was said to have excited suspicion following her frequent visits to the toilet.

“On arrival at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos, three wraps of methamphetamine were found in her possession,” said Mitchell Ofoyeju, NDLEA spokesperson.NDLEA commander at the Lagos Airport, Mr. Hamza Umar, said that the suspect while under observation excreted two additional wraps.

Burundian arrested with 2.390kg heroin at Lagos International Airport

Officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for trafficking substances found to be heroin have arrested a Burundian, Aisha Uwimana.

A statement by the NDLEA Head of Public Affairs, Mr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, said Uwimana was caught at the Muritala Muhammed International Airport with 2.390 kilogrammes of heroin hidden in her hand luggage. She had boarded Rwanda Air from Burundi into Nigeria.

NDLEA Arrest Man With N82m Worth of Cocaine in Kitchen Utensils

A Lagos-based businessman, Asogwa Ochiabuto, has been arrested by officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for smuggling 7.45kg of cocaine hidden in flasks and kitchen utensils into the country. In a statement by the NDLEA Head of Public Affairs, Mr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, on Tuesday, the discovery was made during the inward screening of passengers onboard an Ethiopian Airline flight from Brazil.

The agency added that the drug, which was industrially concealed inside food flasks and kitchen utensils, tested positive for cocaine and weighed 7.45kg. It is estimated to have a value of N82m, the single largest seizure recorded at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja, since January. NDLEA Abuja Airport Commander, Mr. Hamisu Lawan, said the arrest was made following intensive screening by narcotic officers.

Textile Merchant Arrested With N57m Worth Of Cocaine In Lagos

A 32-year-old textile merchant, Paul Emujue, has been arrested by officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for importing 5.745kg of cocaine worth N57m. Emujue was said to have hidden the cocaine inside laptop bags. He was said to be on his way from Sao Paulo, Brazil, when he was apprehended at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

A statement by NDLEA Head of Public Affairs, Mr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, said NDLEA Commander, Mr. Hamza Umar, confirmed the arrest. NDLEA Chairman, Ahmadu Giade, said, “The agency will continue to arrest drug traffickers and charge them to court. This arrest is commendable. Members of the public must note that it is wrong to raise capital from drug trafficking because anyone that ventures into the criminal act will be prosecuted. I urge stakeholders to partner with the NDLEA in fighting drug trafficking.”

N72m Worth Of Cocaine Seized At Lagos Airport

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has seized 364 wraps of high- grade Brazilian cocaine, weighing 6.490kg and valued at N72m.

The NDLEA Head of Public Affairs, Mr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, said on Monday that the seizure was made at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

He added that a 32-year-old suspect, Francis Bawaba, was arrested in connection with the discovery, which was made during the inward screening of passengers on an Etihad flight.

The wraps of cocaine were said to have been prepared for ingestion and hidden inside Bawaba’s hand luggage.

NDLEA To Probe More Celebrities Following Tonto Dikeh’s Indian Hemp Photos On Instagram

Nollywood Actress and singer, Tonto Dikeh denied being in possession of hard drugs claiming the photographs of a wrap of hemp and grains that formed the letters, ‘Happy birthday POKO’ on her Instagram page were photoshopped. But the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has said it is keeping tabs on her and other celebrities for drug trafficking, abuse and links with drug cartels.

The campaign was triggered by Dikeh’s June 28, photos where she reportedly also posted a photograph of herself with the inscription, ‘Mi smoke ganja mi smoke weed while my haterz smoke ma gossip.’

What quickly comes to mind is the case of Tonto dikeh and NDLEA (the drug enforcement body,) if your in Nigeria. Mentioned they could press charges against the actress; for encouraging the youths to smoke marijuana by posting the photo online.

Tonto Dikeh Could Face 15-year Jail Term Over Marijuana Photos On Instagram

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on Friday said controversial Nigerian actress, Tonto Dikeh, risks a minimum of 15 years in jail for encouraging the consumption of hemp.

Dikeh had posted photographs of a wrap of hemp and grains of the weed formed into the letters, ‘Happy birthday POKO.’ and added the inscription, ‘Mi smoke ganja mi smoke weed while my hatez smoke ma gossip.’ Her picture is a close-up of her face that seemed to depict her in a high state.

NDLEA spokesman, Mr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, said the matter would be investigated.

Ofoyeju said, “Our attention has been drawn to the post quite frankly and I can tell you that action will be taken on it. The law is clear and NDLEA has been very clear on the issue. No one is permitted to sell, use, cultivate or encourage the use of Indian hemp in Nigeria. The weed is one of the banned narcotics in the country.  'Photo after the jump'

Appeal Court Upturns Baba Suwe's N25M Damages Suit Against NDLEA

The Court of Appeal in Lagos has overturned the judgement of a Lagos High court and quashed the N25million damages awarded in favour of Nollywood actor and veteran comedian, Babatunde Olasunkanmi Omidina, a.k.a. Baba Suwe. against the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA. However, his lawyer, Bamidele Aturu, has stated that he would appeal the ruling, which was delivered by Justice Chima Nweze.

It would be recalled that Baba Suwe was arrested in October 2011, by the NDLEA at the Lagos Airport enroute Paris on suspicion of ingesting substances believed to be cocaine. The actor was held for 24 days without trial and upon his release, dragged the agency to court.

Sunny Ade’s Ex-Guitarist Jailed 3 Years for Drug Trafficking

The Federal High Court in Lagos, has sentenced Sunny Ade’s former guitarist, Fatoke Abiodun, who was arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, to three years imprisonment for drug trafficking.

Abiodun, who was brought before Justice S. Seidu of the Federal High Court pleaded guilty to one count charge of unlawful exportation of 1.575kg of cocaine.

In his ruling, Justice Seidu sentenced the convict to three years imprisonment with effect from the date of arrest. He noted that the appeal of the defence counsel and the fact that the convict pleaded guilty without wasting the time of the court were carefully considered.

Nigeria: Drug Agency Destroys Cannabis worth a Billion Naira in Edo

THE National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Edo State Command, destroyed 102.71 kilogrammes of cannabis sativa (marijuana), estimated at over N1 billion.

According to the Executive Director of the NDLEA, Ahmed Giade, the exercise which took place at Idogbo near Benin City, constitutes the largest single destruction of narcotics in the history of drug control in the country, attributing the success to the hard work by officers and men of the command and support from members of the public.

Represented by the Director General, Femi Ajayi, Giade said the agency successfully traced and seized cannabis concealed in vehicles, secret warehouses and other disingenuous places and apprehended 231 suspected drug traffickers in Edo, in the year ended December 2012.

According to him,  “we are about to witness the largest single destruction of narcotics in our country’s history of drug control.
