Event description

[edit]

In partnership with Delaware County Community College Black Lunch Table (BLT)' will provide an overview of Wiki basics, an introduction to the Wikimedia Community, and how to update and edit articles. No specialized knowledge of the subject or Wikipedia editing experience required and help will be available throughout the event. The event would be part of the college's Next Gen Digital Literacy Series.

All are invited, with no specialized knowledge of the subject or Wikipedia editing experience required. A brief overview of the basics of Wikipedia editing will be given at the start of the edit-a-thon.

About the Next-Gen Digital Literacy Series

[edit]

Next-Gen Digital Literacy is a dynamic series designed to empower students with essential skills for navigating today’s complex digital information landscape. From understanding copyright and intellectual property rights to mastering fact-checking techniques, sessions offer practical tools for becoming a more informed and responsible digital citizen. Participants will also explore the value of open access and the role of local news in shaping public discourse. The series also features special events that take a deeper dive into timely topics in data and digital issues.

About Black Lunch Table

[edit]

Black Lunch Table (BLT) is a nonprofit and sixteen-year ongoing artist collaboration. Its primary aim has been the production of discursive sites, wherein cultural producers engage in dialogue on a variety of critical issues.

Black Lunch Table Wikimedians mobilize the creation and improvement of a specific set of Wikipedia articles that pertain to the lives and works of Black artists. In the field of mainstream contemporary art, Black artists are still marginalized within our field.

Wikipedia estimates that 77% of its editors are white and 91% men. Our work shifts this demographic and empowers people to write their own histories. Our sessions and events, including BLT Photobooth and edit-a-thons, equip new editors with the skills and resources to create, update, and improve Wikipedia articles and encourages existing editors to focus on filling Wikipedia knowledge gaps.

Suggested artist pages for revision and/or creation! This event-specific list focuses on important visual artists of the African Diaspora associated with UPenn who are under-represented on Wikipedia. Please add a name if you know someone appropriate who needs a page or needs editing. Please do not add an artist who has a substantial page. We are trying to create new pages and beef up under-represented ones.

  • Etherpad: BlackLunchTable - List the article you're working on in this live doc to keep track and avoid duplicate work!
  •   denotes Infobox is needed

These articles are suggested, be sure they qualify according to Wikipedia's NOTABILITY guidlines before you create a new page. Thanks!
