Dog Hides Out in the Field Until Mom Mentions the One Person She’ll Always Show Up For

Piper isn’t coming when mom calls her name, but mom already knows which words will at least get those ears to pop up. She calls “Pipey” from the back door, then tries “C’mon baby,” but the German Shepherd stays hidden among the crops. In the @pipergirl_thegsd video, Mom finally says the words she knows the dog will react to: “Pipey, daddy’s home.”

Two ears immediately appear above the plants, followed by Piper’s very suspicious face. Mom repeats that dad is home and tells her to come get him, but Piper doesn’t move. She may have a favorite person, but she clearly isn’t willing to trust mom that easily.

Mom starts the morning by calling for Piper from the back door. “Pipey” gets no response. Neither does “C’mon baby.” The camera moves around the yard, but the dog is still hiding. Then mom pulls out the big guns and mentions dad. “Pipey, daddy’s home.” The dog can’t help but react to dad’s mention. Almost immediately, two ears rise above the crops on one side of the frame.

Mom zooms in, and Piper is still mostly hidden. She looks toward the house as if she is trying to decide whether this information is worth leaving her spot for. Mom gives it another try. “Daddy’s home. Come get daddy.” Piper’s ears stay up, but she doesn’t budge. Whatever mom’s voice is saying, Piper seems to have picked up on something else. Maybe dad isn’t actually home. Maybe mom has used this trick before. Either way, the dog is not falling for it today.

The video has picked up more than 21,000 likes, and Piper’s ears making that sudden appearance explains a lot of the attention. One viewer imagined her thinking, “No he’s not,” while another said, “She knows you’re lying.” Someone else joked that Mom must be the “spare human.”

Others shared their own words that bring dogs running. “Car ride” apparently works every time for one person. Another said “help or cheese” is all it takes, while someone else joked that saying “treat” brings the neighbor dogs too. Piper may have stayed put, but those ears gave her away completely. She was listening the entire time. She just wanted a little more proof before leaving her hiding spot.
